While they were very friendly and attempted to stay fair to both sides - the fact that they put up Brian in a hotel room while allowing Gabby to leave alone, uncomfortably driving the van to an unknown destination is outrageous.
I get that the officer stressed in the video that they, the authorities could not treat either party differently due to gender but c’mon…..gender definitely matters when sending a Female off alone in a van to fend for herself while driving a Male to a hotel and assuring he arrives safe and will be taken care of.
A girl has a much better chance at possibly attracting predators vs. a guy.
So yes gender matters in this case.
She deserved a hotel room while Brian should have had the option to just take the van.
Bad judgement of the officers IMO.
Also labeling her the “Aggressor” and him the “Victim” was preposterous at best.
Even then w/out the knowledge we have now.
Anyone speaking to them could see that she was continuously crying while he was chatting cheerfully w/the cops.
It was apparent that she was scared while to him, none of what was happening was even a big deal.
We have been over this SO. MANY. TIMES. She admitted to slapping/scratching him, so technically she was the abuser in the situation. They're not legally allowed to put the abuser up in a hotel room.
Even if it was just their policy, THEY DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO. PLEASE stop blaming these guys, I'm sure they feel guilty, but they did what they were supposed to do.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda. She's still dead. The problem was these backwood simpletons couldn't size up the situation appropriately. Maybe they were nice enough, but nice is as nice does. She's dead. They misread the situation. Yeah, she scratched him. He milked those scratches for all they were worth. We don't know why she scratched him, but give me a break. That piece of garbage man MURDERED her. They were worried about a few scratches when they were coddling a murderer in the making? We don't even know if he also murdered the lesbian couple, but good chance he did - all things considered. Again, they were coddling a murderer.
These people shouldn't be cops. They bring to mind the cops who returned one of Jeffrey Dalhmer's victims to Dalhmer, who subsequently murdered and ate the poor guy.
This is absolute bs. How dare you blame them for what happened. They cannot predict the future. They did the best they could with the information they had. And btw, she was the aggressor.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Posting a different viewpoint and wondering if any of the PP’s on this thread have viewed the police interview with the couple when Gabby was reported to the police for assaulting Brian in Moab ??
Because, maybe if more people watched that tape, they’d take a more neutral approach. Having watched the full one hour police bodycam interview of both Gabby & Brian I have a few questions :
1) Gabby was nearly arrested for assault of Brian - there was a witness who called the police and that is why the police pulled the couple over) in July - towards the end of that tape, Gabby calls her parents - so - where are the parents in this for the next 6 weeks ??? Think about it everyone: you , as the parent of a 22 year old - have just been called and notified that your daughter has been pulled over by the police and almost charged with battery - and given a court date - had the cop not changed his mind - you know she is unemployed, is living in a van ( homeless) and has no purpose other than trying to gain fame and influence through writing a “ blog” about how she and her bf are ,” having a great adventure exploring the west “ - except it’s obvious that is all FAKE - they are 2 unstable young people, without jobs and violence has broken out in their relationship in which they are holed up together in basically - living out of a vehicle
You know this as her parents and what do you do ? Nothing - it seems - No, come home NOW Gabby - no ??? Get to the nearest airport and we will buy you a plane ticket home - right now Gabby
Instead, he Dad is paying for meals to be delivered to her while she lives in the van - OK
What is Brian’s obligation to her vs to himself ? He is not her husband or her father and he is same age as her . He is free to leave her and just go home . That is not a crime . He is not supervising her as an adult over a minor ? She had attacked him previously and - had the Utah cops charged her as they could have, Gabby would have had to show up in court in Utah in August .
Maybe she assaulted him again ? Maybe she is unstable and ran away from him . Maybe she hitched a ride with someone else afterwards.
Granted, he should have left on his own if the van was registered to her, but in the police video Gabby says that she doesn’t really ever drive the van so maybe - you all don’t know this - maybe they had an agreement that he go home in the Van . For all you know , maybe all this drama is caused by this girl
Signed,
A woman
Well thought-out and completely rational post.
Sorry that some people here flipped out on you and posted hysterical attacks on you.
I believe we agree he is unlikely to be convicted of causing her death on the scant evidence known at present.
If he had an agreement - why would he refuse to tell her parents where he last saw her knowing they’re searching? Why not assist the police who are also looking for her? If he didn’t do anything wrong why did he not ever report her missing even after knowing no one could get in touch with her?
Ahaha the neighbors brought out a little golf cart and are now picketing his parents house. I hope sheltering their precious little murderer was worth it.

Five vehicles turned up with officers pouring out after the house was suddenly taped off with yellow police line tape. Shouts of ‘search warrant’ could be heard.
Laundries parents were taken swiftly out of the home and into a black propel carrier. FBI agents lined up outside the door before heading in at speed.

PP’s who pointed out that if this were some AA girl it wouldn’t be a media frenzy have a dead on point
Lastly, to the PP who keeps insisting that they can just tell from Brian’s body language and manner of speaking h that “ he is an abuser “ - did you even watch the whole tape ? Because I saw a nervous, kinda weird guy but I also saw him - when the cop said Gabby was going to have to spend the night in jail as she was the assailant and , as a result, could not be put in the hotel shelter - I saw him ask if he could just be the one to use the jail cell instead of her and let her have the van
Putting her first, putting her welfare first even after she caused the whole scene and the cops having to pull them over
THAT is a young man doing the right thing. My guess is eventually he had had enough and listened to his parents and came home
Not a crime
I certainly hope you find the nerve to return to this thread after she “shows up”, as it were.

Exactly. They were supposed to give him her van? That would make no sense.
Hindsight is always 20/20.
Even though she was the legal owner of the van, I am pretty sure the officers would have been able to get Gabby’s formal consent for him to take possession of the van.
They should have done this.
She verbally stated to the officers that she wasn’t comfortable driving the van and that Brian always did the driving.
Yet after hearing this, the cops still made her drive it off to God only knows where.
They knew she was emotionally very upset since she had been crying over the last hour.
In spite of her not wanting to drive the van, along with being so upset they gave her no option but to go off on her own, in a town with less than like 5,500 people where she did not know a soul to fend for herself while Brian got a free, cushy hotel with a private hot shower, a real bed to sleep in along with a locked/secured door.
The police owe Gabby’s family an apology for sure.
Not saying they caused her to die….just saying they were not looking out for her best interests at all on the evening of 8/12.
No they do not. You are spewing nonsense based on bias due to the outcome. At the time they were pulled over, Brian was the one with marks on his face due to Gabby striking him. It was also her van AND she was speaking with her parents. If she was so concerned about being alone or driving the van, she could have followed the cops to town and her parents could have paid for a hotel.
NP and I totally agree.not sure why some are twisting themselves into pretzels to try and blame the police. These were grown adults. I think LE went above and beyond. Gabby could have called her parents for advice if she wasn’t comfortable driving the van. They could have helped her find her own hotel and transportation.

Especially since it was already after five and would soon be nightfall.
How was it acceptable to make her drive a vehicle that she was uncomfortable driving, in the middle of practically nowhere, in her emotional state with little money and no known people in the area??
How safe is a situation like that for a 22 yr old woman?
While a man gets to “watch T.V.”, get a hot shower and gets a decent hotel room to stay in overnight? And even gets a lift there as well?!
