Volker and Taylor were there to help Ukraine negotiate with Russia but their political appointee bosses didn’t care about US interests or Ukraine’s interests. I suspect that Volker went along hoping to resolve this with a statement from Zelensky so they could get the show of support for Zelensky from Trump and V and T could get back to their mission. It was terrible judgment on their part if they thought Trump or Pompeo or Sondland would ever give a shit about what happens to Ukraine or any other country in the region.
Schiff wants to get at Trump and his inner circle, so perhaps these people going to get away with a slap on the wrist, just like Macguire.
