She opposes micro-split feeders, mentions this connected to Crossfield and it's new feeder pattern.
She opposes the Fox Mill move because it will "further decrease under-enrolled membership"
SLHS is at 98% capacity, even at 85% capacity it is not under enrolled. The issue is that they don't have enough students taking IB, is my guess. That is not FMES fault, nor is it FMES problem.
Isn't she a little big late to express her opinion publicly? I feel she went easy and avoided conflict before the last version came out, which had fmes in both versions. And now, she is say cheap words hopefully to reduce blames from slhs parents. She should really push to fix IB in slhs if that's one of the main complaints of slhs.

If we are going off of the McDaniel phone call yesterday which stated only tweaks would be made to the final scenario, keeping FMES at SLHS would be a major change.

Sad. And it’s infuriating how the school board completely disregards the negative impacts of these types of boundary changes.
It’s kind of a shit-show. They can’t really claim they’d leave Westfield at 74% because it was “too big” when they are leaving Oakton so large. They just make short-term decisions based on what they think they get away with and what will placate the loudest people with the most money. Money may not exchange hands, but it’s still corrupt.
100% agree there is a LOT of corruption. When a large block of people organize, the school board members think about that large block of votes and nothing else. Disgusting.
It’s wild to me that so many people continue complaining about how various parents are coming together to advocate for what they believe is right for their kids.
Every single person in this county has access to the boundary tool. Every single person can attend a boundary meeting in person or via Zoom. Every single person can email their school board members or text their neighbors or talk to their communities. If you are choosing not to do this, then you have zero right to complain.
If you think it’s so “disgusting,” stop wasting your time posting on this forum and go take action that’ll actually move the needle.
Agreed. There are lots of ways to contact people and have your voice heard. The big difference, I think, is that the people who are passionate about the subject one way or the other have taken the time to organize and are communicating to post comments, send emails, and post on FB. The people who are not happy with the changes seem to be less organized. And I think that there are a lot of people who don’t care.
Crossfield seems to have a group of parents that want to move to Skyview but they have posted that they are worried about their kids social life at school if the parents speak too loudly about moving from Oakton. It is a weird vibe. The ones who want to move have been vocal but some have been abrasive.
Westfields lack of a voice has been surprising. I don’t even think that the Centreville families have had to be all that loud to fight moving. It is weird.
Centreville hasthe advantage of Seema Dixit living in their boundary and making sure to take care of her neighborhood. The ONLY area moved out of "overcrowded" CVHS was a low income apartment building that is closer to CVHS than areas that stayed put? That's shady AF.

True, they are all f***ing fake a**holes.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:We need leaders who can truly make decisions that are best for our kids across the board instead of focusing on bogus equity goals that only benefit students and parents selectively, while leaving others out to dry.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I got a reply from Meren.
She said removing the Fox Mill ES population from South Lakes HS will decrease the already under-enrolled membership and that means the programming decreases. She also said such a reality would be unacceptable to South Lakes families.
I guess she just doesn't care about Fox Mill families.
Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.
The Hunter Mill representative on the school board has always allowed their priorities to be dictate primarily by what Reston and the Town of Vienna want.
That was the case in 2008, when Stu Gibson got neighborhoods moved into South Lakes. That was the case earlier this year, when Meren went along with the Town of Vienna‘s objections to anyone in the TOV getting moved out of Madison into Marshall (and other boundary changes that left Marshall weaker). And it will be the case later this year, when Meren objects to moving Fox Mill to Skyview.
The difference is that Meren probably will get outvoted and Fox Mill will get moved anyway. All she is probably doing now is laying a foundation for a noisy dissent.
We know she doesn’t care about Fox Mill, we have known that since she was elected. She ignores all the pro move posts and replies that she understands to the few posts bemoaning Fox Mill moving. She is 100% going to try and let Floris go and keep Fox Mill. I am hoping the rest of the School Board sees that Fox Mill wants to move and realizes that they need the school to hit the numbers they want at Skyview.
But I don’t trust what has been said by anyone and won’t until the boundaries are drawn. I know that Fox Mill was moved in almost every scenario that they have put out so I am hopeful, I just don’t trust the school board.
I’m sorry to say that your lack of trust is justified.
If they were only had a school with four feeders (Coates, Floris, McNair, and Oak Hill), then some families in those areas would be less likely to send their kids to Skyview, Skyview would be well under its already small capacity, and the school would be more dependent on pupil placements.
That is inconsistent with the prior directive to open Skyview as a neighborhood school, but you simply never know with these people. You need only look at some of their actions in connection with the county-wide review to know they are capable of making truly bad decisions.
They pay but the merest lip service to equity, so a claim that they are “focusing” on equity goals can’t be taken seriously.
