I can’t believe there’s only one episode left and I am afraid we’ll be left with cliffhangers. I really want to know what’s happening with Al-Hashimi. I did not like her at all in the first episodes, but they’ve done a great job growing and revealing her character.
Agree that I wasn’t too crazy about Al-Hashimi at first either but she has really grown on me. I like her dynamic with Robbie.
Oh, Dr Robbie…I heard caregiver burnout along with his suicidal ideation. Being in a caregiving position as well, I deeply understand the idea of needing to feel needed and how rewarding it can be. It can also be incredibly draining to be so needed. It is a real struggle and balance can be difficult to find. Especially for someone like him who has closed everyone off. The little mention of his mom leaving hit a nerve for me. There is so much we don’t know about him. I don’t think they will write him off the show. I’ve seen too many interviews of Noah Wyle talking about how involved he is with the show and how much he loves the work.
I wish we knew when season 3 is starting. I’m not ready for this one to end.
Well, Noah Wylie would have to write himself out -- he's the writer of the show. And it wouldn't work to write that character off, anyway. I mean, think of the thumbnail for the show on Hulu ... it's just a picture of Noah Wylie's face. The Pitt (the show anyway) = Dr. Rabi.

Santos was not as annoying in this latest episode. I didn’t see any eye rolling or beef with Langdon which was a nice change. I would actually love for them to form a friendship of some sort.

Also I think if you are familiar with professional women like this, you know a variety of women aged anything from 31 to 49 who look about the same. Agree with PP that there is an ageless quality to women like this, and they often adopt a professional look early in their careers that is initially a little aging but then grow into it and winds up making them look younger longer. Some women I think of in this category are Huma Abedin, Andie MacDowell, Julianna Margulies, and maybe Anna Wintour. They've don't look youthful for their age, but they also don't look "old."

Absence seizures can be triggered by emotional distress. We know Al-Hashimi was working in an Afghan hospital that was subject to a terrorist massacre back in 2020. I think the implication is that the baby, or the baby crying, may have triggered a seizure, perhaps through Al-Hashimi's association with that event. I wonder if potentially Al-Hashimi's condition had been dormant since childhood but PTSD from that attack has led to it recurring. Her response to the seizure was to immediately call her neurologist and request and urgent appointment, so it's not like she dismissed it or didn't view it as problematic -- she's concerned.
In general I agree that having an attending with epilepsy and a pattern of absence seizures running an ED is a problem. However, if the condition was dormant and she was frequently tested and taking medication to control it, and obviously it was disclosed, I could see it being okay. ED doctors don't "operate" -- they aren't surgeons. And I do think that normally an ED would have enough duplication of roles that a doctor with this condition wouldn't be a liability. Or at least not any more of one than having an attending with a history of migraines, or with a bad back (like Langdon), or who is pregnant, or has any of a variety of conditions that might require someone have to step out of a trauma room or turn control of a case over to another doctor. I have a family member with well-controlled epilepsy dating from childhood and she can go years between seizures and they are momentary -- a few seconds. If it happens, she goes to her neurologist immediately and they can sometimes adjust her medication but generally the seizure is not repeated and everything goes back to normal immediately. She is really not limited by it. That could change with time, as with many neurological disorders, but right now she could definitely be an ED doctor.
Just not in the Pitt which is structured in a totally unrealistic way with one attending and very few residents (with only two of them senior) and severely understaffed.
The chart said she has been having them for 35 years since she was 5. She’s playing a 40 year old? How could an attending be only 40?

I loved the scene with Langdon saving the patient from paraplegia! That was so good.
I had a thought that Langdon would misuse it to get drugs. I think they’re setting him up for a relapse. His back was hurting, he was sweating after the paralysis patient, and he disappeared to the bathroom.
I’m wondering if they’re hoping everyone jumps to this conclusion but it’s actually a totally different one. I really hope they don’t take the easy way out and have Langdon relapse.
The single shift nature of the show makes relapse extremely unlikely to me. He literally *just* got out of rehab and it's his first shift back. He's still in "I'm just so grateful to have a second chance" mode. I think they are showing the stuff with his back just to show that there will be challenges to his recovery if he stays in this job, which is also the point made with Robby and Santos being less than welcoming regarding his return. But I don't think he's going to relapse on his first day back. I think his arc is just an emotional one, showing the challenges for someone returning to their high stress, physically demanding job after going through a rehab program. A snapshot of what that's like.
The only person I think is actually in crisis this season Robby. He's truly at a critical juncture and no matter how happens, it's going to be a major shift for him. He's either going on this sabbatical (maybe to not return) or he's canceling the sabbatical (which would be a big shift) or he's choosing none of the above (maybe choosing to take the sabbatical but not to go ride off into the sunset, but to get therapy and deal with his mental health issues). I think he's the only one who we will see make a real change in the show, and I think that is the last thing that will happen before the season ends, so they can pick up with a short time jump showing the immediate aftermath of that change in the next season.
