I am a parent.
I do not object.
A small portion of parents don’t get to dictate to everyone.

You are more than welcome to provide these books to your kids. They are not appropriate in schools.

I’m a school librarian. 25 years running. Pretty sure I haven’t corrupt anyone on my watch. My own children read whatever they wanted to. They’re all successful adults.
Trust professionals.

I'm a former teacher and a parent of two. These books are not appropriate for school libraries.
And, since tax dollars fund the purchase of books, we do indeed get a say in books available to students.
Purchase the classics. Purchase appropriate literature. Leave the smut for parents to purchase for their own children.
And, sorry - we have seen over the past 3 years that blind trust in professionals is naive.

Well said. Thank you. Your former students were lucky to have a teacher who cares as much as you clearly do.

Thank you. I am absolutely mystified by supposed parents who believe that books like Gender Queer and All Boys Aren't Blue should be available in school libraries. I truly cannot understand it. I would really think long and hard about allowing my children to associate with children of parents who have these views.

Please answer the question of whether the classics includes books formerly banned for smut like Lady Chatterly's Lover.

Blind trust in teachers, like yourself?
Parent your kids. I’ll parent mine.

The classics - you mean like Lady Chatterly's Lover and The Tropic of Cancer and Ulysses? Those classics? Or do you agree with the censors of the last century that those classics are filled with smut and should be banned?

There's smut in the Bible. I bet you don't want to ban that, though.

If parents have an issue with what books their children read, then perhaps they should be proactive parents and monitor what their children read. Not all parents object to these books, so why are their views not being considered?

Kennedy can flap his gums all he wants as well. However, it would be mean much more if he flapped his guns and expressed outrage and kids being shot in schools.

And it's honestly disturbing that so many people don't see a problem with explicit sexual content being available to minors.

This is why there we have 1st Amendment, to shut down people like you.

These books aren't running up and attacking people, forcing kids to read them. Your kid would have to SEEK IT OUT.

Except when books that showcase the community are forced to be read by the children. See recent MCPS opt out
