Aaah! The sun suddenly turned off, the plane crashed and everyone got eaten by sharks! - Donald J. Trump, probably.

I expect we will hear more such assertions from Trump backers this week even if Trump’s debate talk is explosive. Some ex-Trump aides, such as former national security adviser Robert O’Brien, are publishing essays about a future Trump foreign policy to help allay fears.
But foreign officials are now intimately familiar with the whole taking Trump “seriously versus literally” debate, and they’re preparing for the worst-case scenario. That’s because nearly a decade after he broke onto the political scene, they see a Trump more angry than before, more bent on retribution, more surrounded by sycophants, and less encumbered by traditions or political considerations that may once have held him back.”

Must be so difficult to managing such important relationships with a mental degenerate in charge. Americans are in for a real surprise if Trump wins this year - whatever credibility we had as a people that would have extended to Trump and his ilk will be completely shot. There are plenty of world leaders just itching to teach us a lesson.

Anyone who is voting for Biden understands how tragic a Trump win would be for our country, both domestically and internationally. With the GOP proudly planning to gut the federal government, with them would go most of the institutional knowledge. Including statecraft.

Which is the point. China and Russia are working for Trump in order to get us isolated and weak, just the like GOP wants us.

But yeah with the odd Republican insisting they’ve heard from “Europe” that “Europe” thinks Trump is a genius, some people would be surprised.

Say what you will about Nikki Haley, she has shown she can govern competently and speak articulately. It boggles my mind that Trump won the primary in such a dominant fashion.

He didn't. He was the de facto incumbent, and Haley continued to pull in 20% (even months after she withdrew). His performance was anemic throughout.

And after all that, she endorsed him. The GOP is a cult.

She wants the MAGA voters in 2028. At the same time, it's not clear that Trump's getting back all of the Haley voters in 2024. I think we'll see not an insignificant number sit out entirely, vote for RFK, or even cross over.

I think the Haley voters, especially after she’d dropped out, are the ones who were signaling that they’re done with the GOP until the Trump rot is excised. I think a significant portion of them will vote Biden. January 6 was the last straw and Trump’s meandering ramblings of dementia are hammering nails in the coffin.

+1 Kinzinger came out and said today he’s voting for Biden.

Very brave of him. Respect.

But that's not the case. He fires any advisor who disagrees with him. He wants to replace anyone in the Executive Branch with people who are loyal to him. He barks and Republicans members of Congress jump, with a perfect example being where he had the Senate border and immigration bill scuttled despite it giving the Republicans 80% of what they wanted, because he wanted the border and immigration to be something he could run on. If he were merely a figurehead that would not be the case.

He fires anyway he suspects is handling him. Like his lawyers, his chiefs of staff, his press secretaries.

And by "handling him" you mean anyone who says "sir, you can't do that because it's illegal/unconstitutional etc"

Not anyone...they have to have tears in their eyes.

Oh good! Oh that's good. I guess not a surprise, but good.

It’s a surprise to me, wow. How many Republicans, many of whom worked with Trump directly, talked about how bad Trump is… and then heroically left the president circle blank?
