No actually, it's not time. And I'm a fed.

If they give in now, it will only fuel his behavior and let him hold people hostage for his next stupid idea.

Ideas -stupid are not- are not to be debated during appropriations bills. They should be debated on the merits, in committees/hearings, and then voted upon in a substantive bill. He is short circuiting that process by closing the government. "Either your brains or your signature will be on the paper" is not a legitimate governing tool unless you are the Godfather.

Agreed.

How do you know? I think it's going on until February.

It will be March with no pay for people who have not worked. Trump and the republicans will say we do not need these agencies because nothing happened when we shut them down. It’s fits nicely with their government is bad philosophy. Look for Trump to propose eliminating whole agencies.

Back pay has already passed both houses of Congress with veto-proof majorities. One of the big agencies where people are furloughed or working without pay is the FBI (which is interesting for a lot of reasons) but it can’t be eliminated by executive decree or whatever Dump wants to try.

Per the wsj (paywall), many newly elected Democrats want Pelosi to seek a negotiated compromise.

Give in to every stupid f-ing lie and manipulation this insane fat toddler President attempts? That’s his compromise? What the hell is wrong with you?

That’s a toddler response.

Not really. You need to respond to to toddlers in a way they can understand. Insults, simple thoughts usually work.

No, that’s the exact opposite of what responsible parents do.

I am sure the tea party folks egging him on (Mulvaney and meadows) are motivated by this.

He Lost 10 points with white, non-college educated people. Not mixed.

That's why he's tweeting like a maniac now.

Mixed in the sense that the numbers are not great for Democrats either. Give him an offer of $500 million more for a fence.

They are about 20 points greater than the GOP's and Trump. That's a big difference.

Not so in the cbs poll. But I agree there is no end in sight. And that’s sad.

I also wanted dems to just give him wall money’ @ start. But honestly- he’ll just do it again. My husband is out of work & wont get backpay. It ducks- but I’d rather a long shut down then have this happen every 2 months.
Seeing this play out helps me better understand the stated, but not always exercised, people lift of not negotiating with terrorists.

Yes, he will just do it again in Sept 2019 and make it a full govt shutdown this time.

There’s a debt ceiling deadline approaching and if they use a shutdown style strategy we are in big trouble. I shudder to think what might happen if he flirts with a debt default to get something he wants

It will at least be after he makes his State of the Union on the 29th of January. Can't they disinvite him?
