Yeah, sure....

Because you expected FFX County to come out in full force for Trump??

Those numbers make no sense.

I feel like a conspiracy theorist, but it's always the same: Fairfax County gets counted last, and some mysterious mail-in ballots magically make up the difference. suspicious.

Count to 10,000, then count to 600,000. See which one takes longer. Come back and let us know the outcome.

It takes less than a second in both cases. It's called a voting machine.

They’re physically running paper ballots through a machine that can process 300 ballots per minute. Obviously they’re using more than one machine to count all of FFX votes, but because paper ballots are used, it’s a manual scanning process that takes far more than a second to tally even 10,000 votes.

There are probably checks on the numbers plus a process to rule out tampering.

How do they open mail-in ballots? By hand? Even if by machine, that still takes time.

there are not "probably checks" - like EVERY election in the country, the number of votes at a precinct are reported back to the election headquarters, and representatives from both/all parties are at every precinct to tally their own counts and report back to their candidate/party HQ's. if the numbers don't match each other and what was reported, then there are automatic audits to rectify. This is in place everywhere, which is why the GOP claims about fraud and vote stuffing are just total BS.

Congratulations, Virginia. You're no better than Texas now. I hope you're proud.

OP here.

I didn't really come back to this thread after the first couple of pages, because it spun out of control.

But goddamn am I thrilled. I'm so disgusted with MAGA sending false flyers to Virginians, with false information, and the incredibly sleazy tactics to spread false information.

I'm so, so, so happy this passed. Great job Virginia for showing up to the polls despite Republican lies.

F MAGA and F Republicans.

It didn't start with Texas. It started with NY.

Actually it started in 2021 with Illinois.

Again, Illinois redistricted in 2021 following the 2020 census which is the normal order of things.

New York redistricted right after the census. So did Texas. Then Texas redistricted again only a few years later because Trump told them he was entitled to more Republican seats. That’s what Texas started, and Virginia, to paraphrase Senator Lucas finished it.

2022 in NY was not a mid-census redraw of lines. that isn't 'starting it"

This thread lays bare just how painfully dumb Republicans are.

All of a sudden they're experts on vote counting, even though they haven't done a simple search of the Virginia Department of Elections website.

All of a sudden they're legal experts, even though the Supreme Court has explicitly allowed this method of gerrymandering.

All of a sudden they're whining about fairness, even though their own Republican representatives voted down the Democratic proposals to ban gerrymandering.

All of a sudden they're blaming Democrats for fighting back, even though Republicans hold a trifecta at the federal level and could ban gerrymandering tomorrow if they wanted to. I wonder why they don't want to!

Those haven't been counted yet. They haven't even been opened yet.

Virginia changed the law to process, but not count, mailed ballots ahead of Election Day. I believe they changed in in 2020, but feel free to check.

Processing includes opening, signature verification, etc.

^ so for the slow folks, the districts with more voting machines to check and more mail-in votes to open take longer.

Plus they maybe have to check the return envelope for signature, etc. Not sure if that’s automated.

What are you talking about. The mail in ballots haven't been counted yet. That takes about a week.

It takes longer to determine the amount of votes needed to win, check the voter registration rolls to see how many votes have not been cast, then crank out the votes needed to win. This is why Democrats want illegal immigrants flooding into the state so they can be registered to vote. Their votes will be cast for them.

If it takes one second to count all the votes, why aren’t all the reruns available by 7:15?

No one knows. Fairfax County is always slower than everyone else. I assume we have a lot of busybodies at the polls running checklists.

I understand it takes time to process the votes. You are the only one who seems confused by it.
