Our DC is a dual American-Canadian citizen, so his tuition will be roughly $20K USD (paying the out of province Canadian citizen rate). It would be a bit lower for other schools in Canada since Quebec charges more for out of province than Ontario or BC.

When did you hear back from McGill? My kid is waiting - also dual citizen. Would you be willing to share stats?

SAT 1500, GPA 3.75
DC did do the application on the early side (early December and added senior grades a bit later).

Waiting on RISD

Congrats from one parent of an art major (performing arts over here) to another! Exciting acceptances and I’m fully aware of the “extra” that goes into these applications with portfolios, interviews etc.

Agree! My DC is in at SAIC and waiting on RISD too.

We took DC to NYC Portfolio day and I was in awe of the many, many students in attendance hustling around with their large portfolios standing there while AOs gave feedback on their work- which we know they put their heart and soul into.

Congrats!! SAIC is a great school for the right person, and Chicago is a fabulous city.

My DC got into SAIC and VCUarts with merit aid around 20K. Still waiting to hear back from Umich-stamps. Still pretty undecided on which school they will choose. Plan on doing lots of visits soon.

Also Loyola gave enough merit aid where the COA would be $25k all in.

I have kid at Loyola and one at UVA. Loyola is better ROI so far.

Train from DC/Alexandria to Baltimore is under $20. Good luck making your decision!

Do they commute from DC area to Loyala Baltimore for class or other activities? Or it's that cheap and close to visit your kid/your kid visit you while they are at Loyala?

They don't commute, but is really convenient to visit for an O's game or Ravens game. My kid can also come home for haircuts or dental appointments and go back to school the next day. We even saved money on the student health plan ($3000) b/c if he needs something like a strep test, he can go to the pediatrician at home. Our other option would have included a need for a car on campus or a lot of flights. Just things that are worth factoring in...

DC got into LM with $39k/yr merit, but they have chosen to go oos public with no merit. Sigh. I was pushing hard for LM, but they wanted to leave MD, which I guess I can understand but I think the ROI for LM is really great. Not that sure about the expensive oos public - Penn State.

NP here. My kid also got into Loyola Maryland with $39k and she definitely has chosen a private school further away that costs a lot more. Sigh. Honestly, I do think her top choice is a better fit, but I'm making her go to LM's accepted student day.

So not having a car on campus won’t be an issue? We haven’t visited and wondering if most of students don’t bring their cars on campus.

Congrats! I was also surprised by the two month early acceptance. I wonder what led to that.

Congrats! Fascinating school!

Why is it?

Here to ask the same thing. We are taking my kid to visit next month and hopefully see what’s what. He was admitted to the honors college and got merit aid… it has a program he likes and we have family in Tucson so he applied. Curious if anyone has more info on here about Arizona! (I saw somewhere that like 40% of their students are not from Arizona! Lots of California kids?).

And Oregon kids living on the western side of OR. They are trying to escape the rain for sunny Tucson. Great foods and better tamales than many other places. If you are visiting next month you are visiting during one of the better weather months. That could sway your decision. The rest of the months it's hat, sunglasses, shade in your car, stay inside in air conditioning kinda weather. People are out running at 6am then you don't really see them outside. It's a nice campus. And it's just ~4 years.

And schools are closed for their long tradition of rodeo week.

Most insurance plans cover a strep test, etc. at Minute Clinic, outpatient places like Patient First, etc Seems silly to travel home for a strep test.

This is so true. I have one in state and one oos. In state DC is living in an off campus apt with friends, and loving it, but logistics is so easy and convenient.
