On the one hand, we're going to get free EXTRA PROTECTIVE MASKS from the government.
On the other hand, we're being told that masks in school are unnecessary and rules for masking will be prohibitted.
Is it any wonder the U.S. spends 90% of its energy chasing its tail... while countries like China that have a singular message are going to surpass us. We can't decide to go up or down. China's leadership says "go up!" and that's what happens. I'm not saying that we need to be like China in all things. But, there IS an advantage to having ONE MESSAGE and then carrying out the plan vs. bickering for years about where to go and never going anywhere.
The mixed messages re: YOU NEED BETTER MASKS vs. PUT THOSE STUPID MASKS AWAY is really too much.

This is about the school boards loosing control and giving it to the PARENTS. Boards will fight tooth and nail.
And if the majority of parents want all kids to mask? This is about giving control to a certain subset of parents at the expense of the majority of parents
If majority of patents want their own kids masked then they will be.
The EO doesn’t propose forcing all children to breathe freely and see each other smile.
If the teachers are still wearing masks, and most of the students are still wearing masks (in the real world, most children in this area still will), whose smiles will they be seeing?
Those of free, well adapted, and healthy kids living without fear.

My sister is an elementary teacher in PA and has had to deal with this during the entire pandemic. The mask mandate was dropped right when Omicron reared its ugly head. The principal of her school has been wearing a face shield, no mask since COVID broke out. Teachers gather with no masks on and take selfies that they publish on Facebook and lots have been out sick with COVID. She was told that she couldn't force the kids to wear masks or to wear them properly over their noses. She invested in some KN95 masks. So far she hasn't contracted COVID even though kids come to school sick with fevers, coughing, sneezing and with runny noses everywhere.

Bless you sir! Can't wait to give our kids their childhood back.
And thankfully by the time all the lawsuits are resolved this summer, the surge will be over. Until then the schools are requiring masks. Only lunatics are still denying this fact. Even republicans have admitted there are real and valid legal challenges to this EO due to the SB1303. Which will buy enough time to exit the surge at least.
And then another surge will happen, and another, and another. I didn't vote for Youngkin, but I really appreciate his push to end the masking mandate.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Serious question: are there studies that show masking kids in schools work? Like, is spread or hospitalization lower in communities that have a mask mandate? I guess it’s hard to compare apples to apples because vaccination rates vary by state a lot.
Anyway - seems like an important thing to know.
Doesn’t matter. People are obsessed with masking. Originally the idea had merit before vaccines and availability of quality masks that protect the wearer. People were encouraged to protect each other. Small price to pay during uncertain times. Now we have vaccines and N95s and better understanding. People can protect themselves now. Add in omicrons mild nature and we should open things up entirely including our faces.
But people are still stuck in November 2020. If they followed the science to 2022, they’d see we are ready to move forward without mandates.
Are these people really going to drop masks next school year when the inevitable spike happens and the measure has expired?
Nope, they will continue screaming for masking to continue. They said themselves that masks are just "a piece of paper" (and many students are wearing even less helpful "pieces of cloth"). So even though it is vaccines that are helping us deal with Covid, they continue to cling to their masks.

Don’t forget them boosters tho haha and then the 5th jab and then they’ll say “studies” show 5th jab ain’t sufficient so now we need biannual inoculations because SURGEEEE!!!!!! Oh, and of course. The subsequent variants. Can’t let a crisis go unused, if you know what I mean…
