You know, I read this website and see all the anti-affordable housing concentration comments. I think you are all full of it or it is the same couple of people who post. You clearly are not voting on the AH issue because no one who opposes this county's expansion plans ever makes any headway with the county board. Even Vihstadt does little. He asks good questions, but he still keeps with the Dems and the Arlington Way when he votes.


Who was the last county board candidate who presented a meaningful alternative to the existing AH plan? Audrey Clement doesn't count because she's never been a viable candidate.

2016: No one opposed Garvey (except Clement)
2015: McMenamin said he opposed the plan but basically ran on a platform of not addressing the AH issue either way and focusing instead on commercial vacancies.
2014: Vihstadt won
2013: No one opposed Fisette (except Clement)
2012: Mark Kelly ignored AH in favor of campaigning on cutting taxes and blocking the street car; Wavro didn't oppose the pattern of where AH was being developed, he just wanted more of it turned over to private developers
2011: No one opposed Hynes and Tejada (except Clement)

And so on and so forth.

Yep, I'm an Arlington owner and am not happy. This is what you get when a county decides to build affordable housing and forgets about educating those impoverished people. Arlington should only have allowed low income housing for seniors. This place will soon look worse than Detroit in terms of schools because of the stupid people who vote for these policies.


It's why I've never liked the entire Arlington Way affordable housing crap. No one has a 'right' to live anywhere, and housing is only one piece of the puzzle. If you aren't prepared and thoughtful in how to provide all the other services, including education, that are required then you aren't doing anyone any favors. The people that AH is supposed to be for, the teachers and police and firefighters, either make too much money or don't want to live in affordable housing. And the people who do live in AH by and large don't work in Arlington - there was a link to that effect about ten pages back in this thread. The developers have gotten rich, the County Board keeps getting re-elected, and limousine liberals in 22207 get to feel good about themselves.

Well now even the limousine liberals in 22207 are affected. The high schools draw from a broader geographic area, so even Yorktown sees the effects of AH on scores. AH must be shut down and transitioned to market rate housing for the bleeding to stop.

And there is no low income housing for seniors. After all that...I feel like such a snob. But, dammit I want my kid educated first.

Glad you finally realized that you're still second class citizens. When they enlarge Stratford in a few years they'll take all the PUs north of 50. And they're going to "spread out" affordable housing by building it on your end of the Pike and some more in the Barrett ES zone. Not anywhere else.
