They who?
The family.

The way she speaks and they look it seems like they were told their mom had died and now the ransom is to return the body.
Heartbreaking.

I think these are either mentally ill people or they are from a different country where this is more common. They are probably still feeling quite powerful having someone famous speaking to them through media.
It's all quite horrifying. I think if I were famous, after this ordeal which nobody could have predicted, I'd see if my elderly parents would be willing to do a name change and I'd wipe any info off the internet.

This is very valuable to us, and we will pay."
To me, it sounds like the captors have said she's died (no proof of life), but they have to pay to get her remains. Absolutely horrible.
Celebrate with her? Wouldn't they say "celebrate her" if she died?
These kinds of scripts are carefully written by hostage negotiators. She clearly said "celebrate with her."
Yes I clearly heard it. But you don't celebrate with someone if they are dead.
They want a "celebration of life" with their mother's body.
They aren't going to drop the official news of her death in this video, hence the cryptic language.
This is not difficult to understand.
Of all the ominous things in that message that was the least ominous.

They would leave her where she can't be found. I believe his is what has happened. I think she died when whomever broke in or entered her house early that morning.
I saw some former fbi agent or something saying that the blood droplets on the steps were actually a good sign. The pattern indicates she was upright, so likely alive and walking. It also wasn’t a lot of blood so not likely any major injury at that point. He said that amount of blood could happen very easily on someone that age with a minor skin tear.

Seems like a really strange move to tell them she's gone and still expect them to pay up. Why not drag it out letting them think she's alive?
depends on their religious beliefs. Getting the body back for proper burial and ceremony can be important to some.
But there's no need to actually tell them she's gone. It's not like they are good and honest people. String them along, get the money, then drop a body.

Yes. Hostage negotiation is a specialty career and those people know what lingo to use.

The entire point is they won’t pay without proof of life.

I've been to a celebration of life instead of a funeral. I prefer the idea and hope my kids will do that.
