No, they are getting rid of the DCC. The regional model is quite different from the DCC and is worse because the transportation will be horrendous, which will make it even more inequitable. At the recent County Council discussion, a couple of Councilmembers referenced the negative effects of the DCC and a desire not to reproduce that.

what did they specify as the negative effects? that highly motivated students were leaving their home schools, leaving the home schools worse?

I have no doubt kids want to get to know kids from other parts of the county, but that doesn't mean Whitman and BCC kids are going to go to Northwood for a public service program. You can't ignore inequities and prejudices with feel good platitudes.

Isn’t the idea that students from Whitman and BCC will go to Einstein, Northwood and Blair? If the programs are good enough, they will come.

Because Einstein folks want the home school to stay strong. I have zero desire to cart my child to Whitman. Being in a region with Whitman is not a plus for me.

But it’s not just about you, PP. it’s about all the kids. Some will really benefit from the opportunity to go to Whitman, BCC, Blair or Northwood (they do have a wonderful theater program). Some will be better off staying at Einstein. Perhaps your chances of getting into Blair improve under this model too.

Placing highly qualified teachers in wealthy schools and siphoning off high achieving students (but only the ones with cars or that can swing a long commute) from low income schools does not help all kids. On the contrary it helps a small number of kids and hurts the majority.

I think that goes to how these programs are implemented, not whether we should have the programs. You do realize that your predecessors fought hard to have at least BCC included in the DCC.
