Sigh. Kyiv Independent is funded by the government of Canada and the EU's equivalent of NED. It is anything but independent because it services a particular point of view, and no others. Please learn that there is no editorial independence with donor funding.

Wait - CANADA ?!? OH NOES! Not THEM!!!!

I mean, who knows what kind of crazy, radical ideas those, those, CANADIANS are forcing on to the gullible, stupid, easily-manipulated Kholkhols in Kiev ???

Try harder comrade Trollski. You’re slipping.

Lol, you forget that this is DC. We know what NED is, how small their grants are, and how little editorial control they exert. The vast majority of their funding is via a GoFundMe campaign.

I think we can agree that Russia will not do it voluntarily. So, what happens if they don’t, for another year or two or five? I keep being told that the war will be over in a year because Russia will be defeated. I honestly don’t see it happening. Look at Palestine, it’s nearly not as powerful yet it continues bringing significant destruction to Israel.
I just would like to know what the longer term plan is. Will there be enough support for Ukraine for another say 3 years? Will Russia be kicked out of it physically, and if so, is it possible without involving nato directly ie sending troops? What if Russia isn’t kicked out by a certain date? Look at Syria, nothing is back to normal there. I am just terrified at the thought of it all going on and on for decades I guess.

Hmm. Not really the same to PP's, but whatever.

No, go back in the thread - I believe Russia's trajectory is not sustainable. Let me know if you can't find it.

It’s not sustainable long term but N Korea was able to withstand the west for decades. There may not be enough time and resources to wait for Russia to pull out/be crushed.

I personally think there will be another Palestine/N Korea setup, with a bit of Iran thrown in.
I don’t know how sustainable it is to keep the sanctions but I think most of them will stay for decades.
Who knows what will eventually grow on that giant field

Not really. It's a war of choice for Russia. They can stop invading whenever they want and aren't at risk for any territorial losses. Nukes won't help them save face they'll only make the embarrassment worse.

Putin has built a system which is full of his clones. As we saw in the 1990s they are very good at masking and lying in wait and pretending to have reformed.
If Putin is crushed there will be another one, maybe a less crazy one, but then this one wasn’t crazy at first either

That wouldn't be fun at all. Notwithstanding Putin being a fascist aggressor who ordered an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, those Russian cities are packed full of men, women, and children that I assume I would like very much if I ever got a chance to know them.

You are correct. The previous statement was no doubt written by someone who has never been endangered by any sort of war, and is not planning to go and help Ukraine fight.
I hear some of this sentiment from those who had left Ukraine many years ago (citing corruption, low quality of life, antisemitism and what not) but now are suddenly full of bloodthirst to those who have nothing to do with decision making and are suffering from those decisions (though yes to a much lesser extent than many Ukrainians).

DP what bullsh#t answer. Russians need to feel the full horror of what they have done in the Ukraine. It is past time to destroy Russians civilian infrastructure and target civilians through out Russia.

Should Americans feel what the Vietnamese or Japanese felt?

Lol, someone doesn't know anything about the Japanese in WW2 or the Viet Cong.

But enough about the distraction. What's the current line on the Pirozghin revelations? Was he trying to double cross Shiogu or the Ukrainians? There's been quite a few Colonels and above targeted over the last few days. Did your guy give up the coordinates?

Words words words.
You think it was ok for kids and old people in Hiroshima to die? It was all worth it, right?

Wow you guys work fast. I just heard about tonight's unstoppable hypersonic khinzal and came to laugh about how last century's patriot missile batteries shot them down again. But you all were on top of things and ready. Kudos to your work ethic. It must be so difficult to keep up appearances these days.

This is a very tired tactic of accusing anyone who doesn’t agree with you of being a troll
I simply don’t think that there is joy in children dying

You disagreeing is not an issue. The issue is that people like you constantly repeat Russian propaganda talking points. It's tiresome. You're not being a critical, original thinker. You're just parroting the lies the Russian government is spreading through social media.

However I don’t read anything related to Russia on social media. My sources are the news outlets the most “Russian” of which is the Moscow times.

Lol. Russia does not have freedom of speech and most Russians neither read neither english nor the newspaper.

I was responding to an accusation that I got my talking points from Russian social media (which I don’t consume).
And no Ukraine doesn’t have freedom of speech. Anyone saying that maybe it’s time for peace talks is potentially in trouble.

😂 The joy is in people not dying because 6 of Russia's big super weapon got shot down. You should be very happy about that.

I am happy about anything that stops further death and destruction.

As long as it's not 'you', right? It's the morally pathetic and weak that emboldened Hitler to invade more than just Poland, remember?

To an extent yes. I doubt I will be personally affected but I have family in the region and I would rather that they live under a bad regime than be bombed, tbh. They seem to share the sentiment.

I think it is realistic to do a Korea like conflict freeze, keep the sanctions, keep Ukraine in check so that they don’t break the quasi peace (it’s harder to keep Russians in check except by sanctions) and let people live their lives not being bombed at a minimum. I doubt it will be great life but at least no war.

Watch the hands:

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/pentagon-accounting-error-overvalued-ukraine-aid-by-3-billion-sources-2023-05-18/

WASHINGTON, May 18 (Reuters) - The Pentagon overvalued U.S. equipment it sent to Ukraine by around $3 billion, a Senate aide and a defense official said on Thursday, an error that opens up the possibility of more weapons being sent to Kyiv for its defense against Russian forces.

Approval, schmaproval.
