It's a moot point. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of qualified candidates begging to take their place. As the PP mentioned, the last time DCFD had a hiring event they had to use the Convention Center because there were so many applicants.

Any firefighters who quit due to vaccine will be replaced before they can clean out their locker.

Keep dreaming that there are replacements lined up. It would take a year to get them hired and trained.

It may be a moot point assuming the PP lives in the district. But the point is not moot when it comes to the attitude. See comments elsewhere about Nebraska and New York nurses and other health care providers.

My point is that the PP implied that it will just be white FF who will be fired for resisting the vaccine. I was noting that vaccine hesitancy is not one of those issues that breaks down on along racial lines. So it's not likely, as the PP implied, that the firings will result in more diversity. It may have little impact on diversity. The PP also made assumptions about who would be hired as replacements FFs that may also be based on false assumptions.

Once again, that won’t happen, especially for firefighters. They are sought after jobs with more applicants than they can hire for a well paying job that does not require a degree.

Hiring the people will not be the problem. Thousands are interested in being on the DC FEMS payroll. It is getting so many people through the grueling training in a timely manner which will cause a problem.

Are you kidding? Paid firefighting is one of the most competitive industries there is. You basically have to be related to a current firefighter to even have a chance to get hired.

Wrong. A few years back, I proctored the entry-level firefighter exam for DCFEMS. It was held at the Convention Center due to so many people registered for the examination. People flew i from as far away as Seattle, Washington. DC firefighters are paid well. At one time their salaries and benefits were better than NYFD. I do not know about now, but then it was. The firefighters would work 8-days a month, minus any voluntary overtime. Very few live in the city, mostly VA, PA, MD and WVA. I knew one BFC who lived in NC and would fly in and out of DC every 72-hours. The union is very strong and at least at one point they had a lobbyist on the Hill. The retirement benefits for many were in the six-figures, so yeah, people are lining up to work as firefighters.
