Vaccinated teachers don't have to quarantine. I'm a teacher that was exposed through a close contact last spring and didn't have to quarantine. It's not unreasonable to assume quarantining teachers are not vaccinated.

It's not that DCPS is being remiss; it's that guaranteed distancing can't be done. Other school districts aren't even focusing on these arcane rules. DCPS is only attempting to take extra, non-effective precautions because of WTU and misinformed parents who think this needs to happen for schools to open.

This. Neal openly supported WTU efforts to keep schools closed. It was so unprofessional and a middle finger to families. Then she eliminated open Q&A during virtual parent meetings to restrict which questions parents can ask publicly. She's taken a lot of steps over her years to support teachers over students and she retaliates against families who raise concerns.
We need a school leader who supports students first and doesn't view parents as the enemy.

Did one of your students test positive? I’m confused how you “know” you got it during lunch at school. Sounds like you’re just assuming that’s where you got it.
Well I’m one of those crazy people you all make fun of. I’m single, don’t go out and get everything delivered. I didn’t go in stores before COVID and I don’t go now. I didn’t go anywhere this summer. I literally have been at home and at school since March 2020. So unless I picked it up going for a walk in the neighborhood, the only place I could have gotten it is at school.

Given the size of Deal we have only received one of these notifications. We are still on the list serve for the old elementary and have received 4-5 notices. My child also hasn’t had subs.

This is happening at my school as well. Canvas has to always be updated, lots of classes need to be covered, it’s been a really rough start to the year.

Blaminess aside, it is a bummer of a situation. My Deal kid also had a bunch of subs the first week, some of whom were not actual subs but Deal teachers being forced to cover classes during their planning periods. And no lesson plans were left. So not only are the kids not learning anything in the classes where the teachers are out, but the teachers who are acting as subs are either not doing their own planning, or they are doing it at night and on the fast track to getting burned out.

Oh I agree they are necessary. Just saying K-5 kids aren’t built for mask wearing. Mine hate it, I always have to tell them to put it on (“but it’s on my chin!”) or over their nose. Then we cram kids at the cafeteria tables same as always and tell them just not to talk while they eat. I don’t think they are considering lunch duty staff close contacts either.
