I’ll say something that almost nobody ever does.

I love being a parent and my family, but dh and I had an incredible life before kids and would have even without kids. There are positives and negatives of each. I don’t view one as better or worse than the other. They are both just different. In my early 40s but truthfully life is not long enough to experience everything I would to experience.

I find your post interesting considering if you click the "Forum Index" link how many other forums does it show that have nothing to do with having kids??? Hmmm....

Some nutso asks this question every other day or so because too many of the folks here don't have common sense.

Anonymous wrote:The other thread got me thinking. I have a couple friend who are successful, financially stable, and in a good healthy marriage. They don’t want kids. The rest of our group does, and we always assumed they would have kids, but they are happy without them. When asked, they always list reasons why they don’t want kids or simply they just didn’t want them. They can easily afford kids and childcare. It seems very unnatural to me as a woman to not want kids. I went back and forth for a little bit and it felt weird picturing my life without kids. I wonder if she is truly happy. I worry they will get bored and have no one else to love. Anyone else have childless friends like this?

Yes, because how YOU THINK AND HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE is the ONLY way to live. This is the problem with today's society and people like you. You think your view of life IS the only way. It's sad.

This is not just a parent site. I found this as a childless woman needing advice. I frequent many of the non-parenting topics. There are many posters without kids who post here regularly. I doubt there would as many childfree women responding if it was posted in parenting stuff.

It's the pre eminent forum for the DC area and there are more general interest forums than parent forums at this point.

I get the feeling OP is heavily swayed by peer pressure. Her friends are having kids so she should too. She also admits to struggling with whether or not to have kids, her friends went through the same process but decided against children.I mean having kids so you won't be bored is a pretty stupid reason to become a parent. OP is inwardly reevaluating her own decision.

Just because you can afford kids doesn't mean you have to have them. There's so much more to parenting than just what you can do for them financially. You're literally responsible for growing a human. Having children is WORK.

"unnatural"?? Ugh you don't sound like much of a friend, OP. Just myopoc thinking everyone must be like you. I say this as someone with kids and they are absolutely the greatest joy in my life and I very much wanted them. But I have close friends who don't have kids (even though they are married, financially well off, etc). It doesn't seem that weird to me. They have full lives with their careers and other interests. Not everyone wants their lives to revolve around kids and that's fine.
