Where do you suppose you’ll find the information about scholarship amounts? I know of no source that publishes this. I’m not sharing info, even on an anonymous forum, about where my kid plays or what his scholarship amount is. I hope no one else would either given all the stalkers and vultures on here.

I’m also not sure the info would be as meaningful as you think. I know several kids who received full ride offers at one or two schools, but turned them down for less money at schools that are more highly ranked academically. As RSD mentioned above, the admissions boost is often the goal for people around here, many of whom are wealthy enough that scholarship amounts won’t play any part in their decision (other than to get a sense of how much playing time their kid can expect). The small slice of people who care about this world have a good sense of who the top youth players are, and their assessments are not going to change according to how much scholarship $$ kids receive. Once they are actually playing in college, it is also not difficult to see who the stars are.

I’m happy to support my son’s travel soccer experience, not because we have any expectation of a D1 scholarship, but because he loves playing the game. He has made some good friends on the team and learned some life lessons. He wants to continue playing in college, most likely at at a D3 SLAC. I think it is wonderful that he will have the opportunity to play a sport in college, at least for fun, relationships, and fitness.

They also do not have a lot of money.

Is it fair to say D3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships?

So if they want athletic scholarships, they need to be competitive (both academically and soccer wise) for D1 schools?

I think my brother may ask me to help with his kids (as mine are already in college) and I am not sure where to start.

Obviously I also can't really assess their soccer abilities, but they seem to be on the top travel teams in their state.

TIA!

Yes, there are no athletic scholarships at D3 schools, though many D3 schools offer academic merit money to excellent students. D1 (and the relatively few D2 schools) offer scholarships to athletes, but a fully funded men’s soccer program is permitted to offer only 9.9 scholarships per team. Many players on a D1 or D2 team receive no athletic money, or very little. Most who do receive a scholarship will receive 50% or less. It’s not at all safe to assume a boy will receive a significant (or any) soccer scholarship unless they are among the top players in the nation.

The league and state matter too. A top player on an a high-performing MLSNext team in the DMV is likely to receive a decent athletic scholarship if he plays in college, but that is not at all true for a kid playing HS and on a top team in Oklahoma in whatever the top league is there. Your odds are better if you live in an area with a lot of D1 or D2 universities with men’s soccer programs.
