It's usually the religious parents who have strong opinions and preferences about their kids partner's religion, not the other way around.

As for me, if my adult son or daughter tells me that they would prefer that we not give presents at Christmas, I'm totally ok with that because 1) there are many other potential gift-giving occasions; and 2) I want to actually enjoy and get to know my grandchildren and that depends on their parents' being on board.

If I receive unwanted gifts for myself or my children, I politely thank the giver and donate the gifts to charity.

My boss received a religious themed blanket from a friend when she gave birth. She and her wife are not religious. They took the blanket out of the box, laid it on the bed, took a picture of the baby laying on it, and sent the picture to the friend with a polite and kind thank you. They boxed the blanket back up and gave it to a charity.

I respect people who are like that immensely. They value their friends and relationships, and aren’t nuts. 10/10 people.

All faiths have a fundamentalist sect and have a spectrum from that to liberalism. I am not concerned with the specific religion, but I would be troubled by my child becoming a fundamentalist in any faith. I would think that would happen before they married anyone fundamentalist.

Both my children have been raised on the liberal side of our faith. They have had friends from many different faiths, but most were on the liberal end of their faith’s spectrum.
