Felt like the show runners settled on a mood and just kept it there. Which was interesting for a little while but then became tedious.
What's so cool about Breaking Bad are the character arcs of Walter, Jesse, Skyler, and Hank. Plus some really good bad guys. The dude that played Todd does psychopath really well. Over - what, five seasons? - it became this Shakespearean drama. I found it riveting. Satisfying ending so good closure. It really is one of the best written shows out there. And the casting was great. It might be a slow start, but if you binge it and watch as the story lines really get rolling, you'll probably get hooked somewhere in season two.
I agree with you about the character arcs. But you should have watched the 4 th season of The Wire! Best season!! Give season 4 a chance.

I’d like to read one of these dissertations. Seriously, I’m curious about why I was so drawn into BB when it absolutely does not fit in my genre at all.

Yes, me too. Hated Breaking Bad, and hated The Wire. Shows for men.
Funny, I’m the woman PP who liked BB and The Wire is right up there with my favorites. Didn’t like GOT though—gratuitous sex and violence.

On the other hand, I think The Wire is genius. I doubt anything will ever be better.

I’m a woman and loved that show. Complex human and family relationships and a fascinating glimpse of descent into evil that can happen to the average person.
