We should all be fearful though, the board warned that cyber bullying is not ok and they will report us because trying to usurp their authority is bullying

I forgot about the kids biting the corners off of relay cards. Thank you for reminding me. It sounds so silly but those traditions are awesome. That is when my kid fell in love with swimming. I hope they can still do things like that.

It feels like there are several layers of disagreement going on here. The MCSL current regulations are far more stringent than the state of Maryland and MoCo. There seems to be disagreement and confusion about the rules for unvaccinated kids but can’t we all agree that vaccinated individuals shouldn’t be limited, per the CDC (if you want to wear a mask - fine your choice). Thinking about our pool, there will be a significant number of kids fully vaccinated by time trials. Would be nice for them to unmask. And also coaches and parent volunteers. I would be happy to submit my vax card to stay out of a mask. Also, 10,000 people at Preakness. Probably okay to have 200 at a swim meet. Feels like a lot of cutting our our nose to spite our face. Without the fun, MCSL will die...

12 and up are just starting to be vaccinated. It takes 6-8 weeks. They will barely be vaccinated if they are.

Where are you getting 6-8 weeks? And what does “barely” matter? If you are two weeks past your second shot, you are fully vaccinated. Pfizer requires 3 weeks between shots and 2 weeks after last shot for full immunity. Over half of my daughter’s class was vaccinated this past weekend. Everyone of those kids will have full immunity by the first meet. All my other daughter’s friends who are 16 are fully vaccinated already. Those who are not vaccinated can wear masks. But a significant portion of swimmers and parents will be fully vaccinated by time trials at our pool.

Good for them. You are really selfish given most teams are heavy on 12 and under and they aren't vaccinated and your kids will be barely vaccinated. I wouldn't want my non-vaccinated kids near yours given your attitude. All swimmers should be masked outside the water. These vaccines are not 100%

Haven’t we established that your kids just shouldn’t participate this summer? No vaccine out there, for any illness, is 100%, so if that’s what you are holding out hope for, please do you when it comes to you and your family, but you don’t get to dictate that the rest of us live that way.

That is not what the previous poster is saying. The PP is pointing to the fact that there will be plenty of unvaccinated children on deck. Let's not make the summer unsafe for them and for the older teens who are coaching them and swimming in the meets with them. No need to be so rude.

I think this is where MCSL is going to have to figure out how they are going to handle this. As of May 28th there will no longer be social distancing requirements in the county, nor will there be any type of mask mandate for an outdoor event. I feel like the easiest way to do this is split the baby so to speak, have the swimmers wear masks on deck but no one needs to police that they stay 6 feet apart from each other. If teams want to be ambitious and do vaccine checks for the older swimmers so that those that are vaccinated can go without I’m fine with that too.

Right. Why is MCSL making up their own rules and second-guessing the CDC? How does it make sense that Camden Yards can operate at capacity with 40k spectators but we can’t hold a B meet or a A meet with observers?

It seems so obvious to me that people from both sides flip/flop on following the CDC guidance or not depending on their own personal pov of things. I have never thought much of the CDC (quite frankly, they have been exposed as pseudo political pawns), so any guidance from them is meaningless to me. But, there are plenty of people who "followed the CDC" for the past 12 mos. who now do not "follow" the CDC. MCSL seems to be in that camp....to the detriment of their own organization and their collective reputation as leadership.

I have two teens. One for whom this will be her last summer of MCSL. My fully vaccinated teens will indeed live even if they have to wear masks. They are used to it. It is not a big deal and they can start to shed their masks elsewhere this summer. All good. Similarly, parents who want to drink their coffee and "watch" will also be fine without spectating. I think folks need to stop spending so much time complaining and spend more time supporting your reps and making this summer as fun as it can be even with the current MCSL constraints. If they change great. If they don't, let's make sure it's fun!

MCSL will not dictate what your team can do outside of practice and meets. Want fun spirit events that are allowed at your pool and under current county guidance--offer to plan them. Want to have a "normal" banquet, offer to help with that. The reps and coaches are exhausted by the new demands being put on them. I would love it if we had less restrictions, but it's time to start making some fun happen rather than spend the rest of the summer complaining. At the meets. . . want to have more adults on deck, figure out a way to split the sessions as someone suggested a above, offer to do the math and figure out what works best at your pool.

Your older vaccinated kid will survive wearing a mask to swim practice. It is really not that big of a deal.

Most summer swim kids are under age 12. Most year round kids are the older kids and they continue to swim with their year round team. FWIW I have two children under 12 who will be swimming. Neither of them would do a swim meet if my wife or I weren’t there helping them - remember, once the swimmers enter the swim area they cannot leave. I’m sure there are tons of parents with 8 and under swimmers in the same boat.

I have no problem with individual pools having stricter rules than the county if that’s what their Board/HOA dictates. But having a one size fits all approach is nuts.

Parents are not allowed on deck for club swimming and 8 and unders do just fine. Parents need to let their snowflakes go in this area and just accept that we can not have spectators this year. Your kids have years of swim team left.

Some pools are considering splitting the B meets into two sessions. Younger kids 10&U the 11 and up. Parents of the young kids should get certified as S&T, there will be plenty of opportunities to be on deck as an official. If you keep the total number of swimmers under tge max allowed, there will also be extra “Marshall” positions to monitor young kids in team area and the meet will be much shorter so kids won’t be sitting around nearly as long.

There is no such thing as barely fully vaccinated. You either are or you aren’t. There is no difference between day 14 post second shot and day 15.

There seems to be disagreement and confusion about the rules for unvaccinated kids but can’t we all agree that vaccinated individuals shouldn’t be limited, per the CDC (if you want to wear a mask - fine your choice). Thinking about our pool, there will be a significant number of kids fully vaccinated by time trials. Would be nice for them to unmask. And also coaches and parent volunteers. I would be happy to submit my vax card to stay out of a mask. Also, 10,000 people at Preakness. Probably okay to have 200 at a swim meet. Feels like a lot of cutting our our nose to spite our face. Without the fun, MCSL will die...

12 and up are just starting to be vaccinated. It takes 6-8 weeks. They will barely be vaccinated if they are.

Where are you getting 6-8 weeks? And what does “barely” matter? If you are two weeks past your second shot, you are fully vaccinated. Pfizer requires 3 weeks between shots and 2 weeks after last shot for full immunity. Over half of my daughter’s class was vaccinated this past weekend. Everyone of those kids will have full immunity by the first meet. All my other daughter’s friends who are 16 are fully vaccinated already. Those who are not vaccinated can wear masks. But a significant portion of swimmers and parents will be fully vaccinated by time trials at our pool.

What’s sick and twisted is the board says we should thank them for even being able to have meets. Even though meets could be held without their stupid waiver and fascist meet policies. They seem to think that swimming glorified time trials is what everyone wants and that the swimming piece is what mcsl is about. Mcsl is about the cheers, the spirits, the crowds behind lanes, the lines at the snack bar, the crowded clerk of course area, the chaos of warmups, kids on each other’s shoulders, biting the relay cards. To the board it’s about swimming and the times, to the swimmers parents and coaches and coaches it’s about everything but that and that’s the shame in this whole thing.

We should all be fearful though, the board warned that cyber bullying is not ok and they will report us because trying to usurp their authority is bullying

I forgot about the kids biting the corners off of relay cards. Thank you for reminding me. It sounds so silly but those traditions are awesome. That is when my kid fell in love with swimming. I hope they can still do things like that.
