I'd love to see a moderate who is anti crime, anti corruption and pro school reform. Just basic stuff to get the city going again. It won't happen, but the pendulum has swung way too far the other way.

First of all, the race of the next mayor is not important, nor is their political affiliation if they can manage. What is frustrating is that as much as dc residents complain, they pay NO attention to their politicians, they don't give to campaigns and they are armchair pundits. The developers give all of the money so Bowser doesn't have to listen to anyone else. It's so frustrating.

I worked in the Fenty administration. I absolutely believed he was corrupt. He made it seem like he was the great savior. Our great savior was Anthony Williams.

Exactly. Anthony Williams turned DC around. There should be a statue of him somewhere downtown if there isn’t already.

This is how I feel, exactly. I am going on 20 years in the city and am more frustrated than I have ever been. It isn't just crime, but minor annoyances are increasing and making it more time-consuming to live here. I am not ready for a conservative mayor, but a moderate or even independent would be welcome.

Is the complaint that Bowser is too liberal or too conservative?

I think she’s just corrupt and incompetent at running a city, but seemingly highly capable of playing politics to the detriment of everyone. Civic-minded non-ideological competence would be what would be hoped for in my view.

I am the PP and "Civic-minded non-ideological competence" is a good term.

Sorry , we are not claiming her. She's a GGW development $$ liberal. She's yours .

Do you have any idea how much she despises the GGW crowd??

She's like any politician: She sucks up to them when it's expedient for her to do so. Like, say, her push to add housing, which for Bowser is not being done for altruistic reasons but to line the pockets of the developers who are the main funders of her campaigns. Or Vision Zero, which has been a laughable failure that no one cares about anymore except for the same four people who populate the GGW comments section.

The point where the two converge is their equal love for developer profits. She just recently invited them onto a commission to eliminate rent control. They obviously were obliging because they hate anything that helps poor people. They love her because she gives them a few bike lanes and hates poor people too.

Same. But the plan for reducing crime needs to not be declaring that most crimes aren't really crime and releasing criminals on the off chance that they've maybe changed their ways.

You know that we are not socially conservative right? We are just not San Francisco militant progressives. Get to know us. If you liked Tony Williams, thats a 'conservative' in DC.

I agree. It’s so bizarre to think that conservatives don’t win in DC when Bowser is mayor.

What’s interesting to me is how “progressive” DC was so upset by Barry pushing through the MetroTech development. But Bowser has turned half the city into MetroTech and the “progressives” now think it’s good? MetroTech was at the time considered Barry corruption at its worst. There was an exhibit in the Building Museum for years lamenting how terrible it was. I guess the secret is that you just have to be a woman and all of a sudden anything you do is “progressive”? I honestly need someone to help me understand this.

Sorry, meant Tech World not MetroTech. I’m confusing Brooklyn and DC.

There's a lot of inconsistency. Progressives are now the condo builders
