I think the big difference is playing college vs scholarship money. There is not a lot of money in some of these sports folks are throwing around.

It’s the same as the others on the D1 men’s side — very challenging and increasingly filled with international players. Also, it is dominated by Californians; your odds of getting in on a scholarship from the east coast are worse. (To be fair, the quality of play in the California clubs is much higher.)

It is a very good route for the women’s side, though.

If you pick an expensive sport, such as ice hockey, your kid is competing against a pretty small share of the population. This is also part of the reason basketball is a tougher sport for scholarships/being recruited.

I don’t if hockey has changed much but I went to a school with D2 hockey and it was middle class kids usually from small cities or large suburban schools. I went out with the captain and got to know his friends. Hockey players seem to be so similar to each other, not like football or basketball. Has this changed?

It's changed. Hockey has become outrageously expensive, so it's primarily rich white boys or really good foreigners, other than in Minnesota, where hockey is so dense and good that you don't need to travel much to play, so it's still within reach for middle-class families.

It's the same for hockey. 39% of NCAA D1 players are foreign, and there are only 60 D1 teams. With few exceptions, the Americans who get a spot on a D1 team come from Minnesota and the Northeast.

Lolz ok. Rowing is only for white privilege unathletic scrubs looking to check a mark on college applications

Lol. Ok You have no clue.

Son’s school is 80% minority (TJ). They have a historically successful crew program.

Our team is also incredibly diverse. MCPS

Women’s rowing

I think there are more seats in college rowing boats than there are female high school rowers.

Your racism is showing.

What? Your idiocy is showing. It’s well known tennis teams here are dominated by kids from other countries.
