I always think about how stupid and hypocritical it is as they’ve sucked the govt teat their entire careers including enjoying socialized medicine and subsidized housing for themselves and their families. We pay them ffs. They work for us and have the gall to fly those flags on their front porches and put it on thei plates.
Agree completely.
This has been the flag of limited or libertarian government since at least the 70s. It's laughable that another PP is trying to argue that everyone flying it is a history buff and they all happen to be really taken with the same minor player from the Revolutionary War.
Whats’s wrong with being a libertarian or in favor of limited government? Those are perfectly mainstream American viewpoints. I know this might surprise you, but there are tens of millions of Americans with these viewpoints, who express their opinions peacefully (such as, with a license plate).
So, your neighbor believes that our government has grown too big and intrusive? So what? Why does that get your panties all in a bunch?
Yes it does because they are HUGE HYPOCRITES as GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES WHO GET PAID WITH MY TAX DOLLARS - they LOVE their 100% NON LIBERTARIAN BENEFITS.
There are very few libertarian or small government advocates who would support abolishing the military. You’re arguing against a straw man. All but the most radical libertarians agree that things like national defense and law enforcement are a proper role for government, since they’re not things that can be accomplished by private individuals.
So, there’s nothing hypocritical in your neighbors working in the military while also supporting a smaller government.
And, you’re assuming their license plates are espousing libertarian ideals, rather than the original message of the Gadsden flag, which was national defense oriented.
There’s a lot of ignorance on your part on display here.
Not really - can you show me your position that libertarians are pro-police forces and pro-military. From what I've read/learned they aren't. Can you show me some evidence on this?
Sigh. You’re just another ignorant Washingtonian, educated beyond your native intelligence. This area is full of people like you. Lots of credentials, but very little knowledge.
The central premise of libertarianism is that the only proper role for government are activities that protect the rights of the people. National defense and crime prevention fall squarely within that area. I’m not really sure what you’ve been reading about libertarianism.

Grandpa, it's 2021 and the flag has been co-opted by trash people.
Ageist? How vulgar! You need counseling before we accept you into modern society, After all, it is 2021.

Would you keep that license plate now though?
I assume the people keeping these plates support any one of these “angry white guy” groups.
NP here. I’ve got one on my car now, with no plans to change it. The Gadsden flag is an honorable historic American flag. Why would I get rid of it just because some not great people also like it? The KKK carries plenty of regular American flags at their rallies. Does that sully the Stars and Stripes for you?
What drew you to the Gadsden flag?
The history behind it is interesting (the motif can be traced back to Benjamin Franklin], I think it expresses a very American sentiment (we can be dangerous as a country, so leave us alone), and I think it looks better than the regular, boring Virginia license plate.
If people are put off of it because some asshats have used it for their own purposes, that’s their problem, not mine.
You don’t mind that people assume you’re a q-anon type?
DP
I assure you, I give absolutely zero.zero F’s what some random suburban bubble dweller lib mom thinks about me. None. Just like you don’t care about what I think about your various Hillary or Biden bumperstickers say about you.
And really, ask yourself why should I care what you think about me? I mean, who are you? It’s pretty narcissistic of you to assume that I should seek your approval as a matter of course.
Weird.
People say that, but then they're sore when it affects who will socialize with them, hire them etc. and they cry "discrimination!" If you truly don't care, that's fine. I just don't want to hear any whining about the inevitable consequences of people thinking you're a conspiracy crank.

I liked the old-style Virginia plates that had the center of state flag on them, in the middle of the numbers. “Sic Semper Tyrannis”, with a Citizen standing over the body of a slain Tyrant, foot atop his body, with knife in hand. Now THAT was a great plate. Way better than being warned not to step on a snake, it actually showed unambiguously what will happen to tyranny.
I guess Northam was a little uneasy with that imagery and the DMV eliminated it in the redesign, haha.

3 trucks
1 Sentra
1 charger
1 complete nutter full-size van w/crazy decal
What does the decal with a 13 and skull and shovels mean?
Laborer’s International Union of North America.
Local 13, Excavators and Site Prep Operators
The shovels represent earth-moving work, the skull means you get worked to death.
Sure. A “labor union”.![]()
Those aren’t really a thing in VA.
You can’t possibly be this dumb. I simply refuse to believe it.
FYI, there are lots of unions and union members in VA. “Right to Work” states just mean employees don’t HAVE to join a union. It doesn’t mean they can’t join one or form one.
Regardless, that wasn't a union decal...
