I would let him decide. You already decided on school. Let him control something.

Sports is a massive waste of time. A hobby.

Nope. Sorry your kid is a loser.

High school soccer is a spring sport for the 300+ public and private high schools in the Virginia High School League (including virtually every public high school in Northern Virginia).

OP here. Yes, he is captain of his extremely competitive travel program. He also plays city rec for fun. He loves the sport. No one is 'trying to live through' him or his sports. I was not even remotely athletic and my DH played basketball. No connection to soccer anywhere. This all came from him.

Maybe his private school can barely field a team and it’d be a waste of time to join, even for games.?

Good luck to all of your fat play station kids! I promise my kid will be nice to them when he's ordering a Big Mac!

Yea right. He may be a pro soccer player one day but at the rates they pay here he will also have a second job as the fry guy.

1995 called, and it wants its cliches about American professional soccer back. If a player is good enough to play in MLS, he’s not going to need a second job.

But, no, the OP’s kid isn’t good enough to play in MLS, if he isn’t in an MLS or equivalent full-time academy.

I grew up playing hockey at a pretty high level in Canada, through most of my high school years. But, I got tired of it and moved on with my life. Most kids, even highly talented young players, do likewise.

Parents, on the other hand, can’t seem to let it go. Especially in the DC area. It’s pretty unhealthy, frankly.

I would bribe him! I did when I needed him to do his best on a long and tedious test! Amazing results.
