F the GOP.

If you don’t like this, you should work to make democrats the party of 5 day a week school. I can assure you, this will be the defining feature of the governor’s race in VA if schools are not open. Get a clue.

If you actually believe anything that the lying, cheating GOP says then you’re hopeless. Good luck with that.

Cases are going down. Schools will be open. GOP will still be trash.

The problem is that it’s the teachers unions that are lying and cheating. And everyone can see it. Ranting about Trump is not the answer. Actually opening schools is.

I don’t know anyone in real life who either says or believes this.

“Teachers’ unions” are the boogeyman. They say and do all kinds of things to those seeking drama.

Teachers unions aren’t even relevant in VA.

Given that all other countries and huge swathes of this country have 5 day a week school uneventfully, it’s not really a fact based argument. But carry on. If we are dealing in actual facts, the most dangerous thing your child does is likely drive on a highway with you.

Are we measuring by sq. mileage now?

^ and not that it should matter but I'm happy my kids are going back in a few weeks.

I just want to be clear that we don't have an accurate % breakdown of the number of kids in DL/hybrid/IP. Or at least not that I've seem so far. Please share if you've seen otherwise.

Part of the real problem is there is no standardized data reporting. So there are organizations that try to consolidate data like posted links, but no federal standard like we have with CDC covid reporting . So any data analyst has to set basic parameters and measures by them. It’s also changing week by week in Many districts. This is the closest and their different visualizations are being used more frequently.

Yes, that has been posted several times, but still doesn’t give us % students breakdown - it’s looking at some school districts, not all students. Hoping for something more comprehensive, but maybe that doesn’t exist because we don’t have centralized/standardized reporting.

is something like this more like what you're trying to find? This is kind of a harsh split but the first map is states with R governors and the second map states with D governors. Total student cost is pretty close to equal, 24M vs 27M.

R Governors:

D Governors:

Seems like he used the same Burbio data "data reflects school mode by district, and weighted by student enrollment.":

OK - even though this data is sus, I consolidated these numbers for sh1ts and giggles since we don't have anything better at the moment.

1/3rd of estimated US students are virtual
2/3rd are hybrid or fully in-person

I'm actually shocked that the hybrid % isn't higher since everyone I know (from east coast to west coast) with kids back in school are hybrid. Out of those families, the most # of days in school is 4 in-person with one asynchronous day.

I think the hybrid areas are the key. They have been doing it successfully for months and they have come up with troubleshooting and problem solving and guidelines and intel on what is necessary and what works and what doesn't and they have a lot of data re. Covid cases is the larger community rising or falling unrelated to school. They can provide so much guidance for DC, Arl, FCPS, MCPS. Many of these places are blue, have been doing hybrid with masks and distancing and protocols in place, and are not lying, cheating, Trumping Florida. Once you get hybrid figured out, and then cases #s drop like crazy, and teachers and grandparents get vaccinated, opening full timr becomes within reach and so much less scary.

Agree that as numbers come down, going back to 5 days is more attainable.

Wear your masks. Get vaccinated.

If there are any. By that point, the pandemic will be over and this time will be a bad memory, not an issue to vote on.

Actually, based on the Burbio methodology, this says that *at most* ~40% of US student are in-person right now. Obviously, it's less than that since 100% of families are not choosing in-person.

https://about.burbio.com/methodology/
"• Burbio assigns a learning mode to a school district based on the most in-person option available to the general student population. Thus if a district offers both traditional and virtual options, the district is categorized as Traditional. "
