When my federal government HR head denied my FMLA request for parental leave following the birth of my child. She asked me if I had the baby vaginally (?!) and then told me I had to report to work in six weeks despite qualifying for FMLA. I spent the majority of my maternity leave trying to work it all out. She was eventually counseled by OPM but I was done. I returned to work, collected my paycheck for a few months, and then left to start my own business. It has thrived for almost 8 years now and my daughters have been at my side every moment of the journey. I still think about that tw*t but without her I might not have had the guts to set out on my own!

I was sexually assaulted at a work event. It was on camera and in front of the CEO, attorney, and HR. They didn’t fire him. I stayed a few months collecting evidence and sued.

Yup, same thing happened at my last place, except the coworker was my boss. Funny thing was management always treated us as if we were on the same level when it came to who should take responsibility for big projects because she sucked at what she did and they needed to protect her all the time. The head of our section supported every dumb thing she did because she was in with top management and someone would come down on his head if he upset princess. I loved the work but stopped caring and eventually quit. It wasn't worth the stress. She's still there and as useless as ever.

Saw an ex-boss cook up a "job description adjustment" that effectively ousted a long-time employee because the boss could not out-and-out fire her.
I knew then that my boss had an evil side, and that she had enough clout in the organization that she would be able to get away with stuff like this. After that I kept my head down, stayed on her good side, and NEVER trusted her about anything. I also disregarded any statements that the organization made like "we're all family." Organizations are not a family--it is simply an exchange of money for services rendered.

When I saw far less competent folks get promoted over me. I left, made millions of dollars, and have made sure my old boss knows it. I’m now pummeling his division into the ground at a competitor.

When my boss chided me for being one minute late consistently. I was never late for meetings or for any other working hours, just not a morning person; other staff who were consistently late for meetings or for required duty hours, which did effect the rest of us, were never disciplined. Weirdly, it was ok if you left early and were late for meetings.

When my company refused to give me a promotion despite 3 years of constant praise and high performance because the big boss only likes to promote "when something big changes" (such as a company expansion).

Not all jobs require an mba but mine was valuable, and I understand why a good program would set a candidate apart. That said many leaders in my large local company do not have one, but they were either business majors undergrad, have a grad degree of some kind or have the requisite experience needed for the job.
Just don’t shit on all MBAS, especially if you’ve never been to a good program. Also, I wish more women would get MBAs.
