You can afford what you want so just get the expensive one. No on here is going to justify it the way that you want.

We ended up needing to sidecar our crib and used it ever so briefly as a toddler bed. Thankful it was a hand me down.

I had the white Larkin collection, times two, for my twins. I bought it at the end of 2013. My twins were born in 2014. I gave the cribs (toddler bed conversion included) away to a friend in 2019, and still have the two dressers in a guest room. The furniture was nice, held up well, and we were very happy with it. There's no way to answer if it's worth $1K to you, though. The cost didn't bother me then and it doesn't bother me now. But I certainly didn't consider that there would be any resale value in it whatsoever.

I THINK you are saying that:
-Cost is no object, literally no consideration for you
-You've asked if the PBK is sturdier or will look nicer for longer-- I think people are saying "No"
-So that means ~all things are equal except your style preference

Oh dear, OP. You must be new to buying furniture. All that painted crap that is so popular now will look like crap in a year after the paint is dinged and scratched. Also dark furniture and cabinets always look like crap for two reasons: the dust stands out and like painted furniture the dings and scratches show up much more when the dark finish is sloughed off, revealing the crappy pine wood/mdf underneath.
If you want to spend $2-3k on furniture get something made out of real wood with a natural finish, preferably one of the lighter woods like oak or maple. It will look amazing and age very well. BTW, this furniture is not sold at the crappy “mall” stores like PBK.
Also do this for the rest of the furniture in your house, so you don’t end up throwing out all that mdf/painted crap in a few years when it looks awful. Landfills are full enough. Remember your kid will need to live on this planet for another 80 some years.
Owned the Kendall crib, the gray one was peeling 18 months in. It’s overpriced fake wood with a veneer. If you really want a nice crib, there are better quality brands out there.

Most people buy new cribs, used ones are practically given away for free in our neighborhood. I sold my PB one for like $20 and only because I didn’t want to haul it to the trash. I wouldn’t consider resale value for baby stuff.

I asked why lol. I think OP is ridiculous for considering either of these sets but to suggest her baby won't sleep in a crib and lol at what a ridiculous "plan" that is unusual.
