Is that the case in prior years, or is it only this year with less top teams traveling to Jeff Cup?

You need to find the right combination of league, team, and/or coach.

Coach - one that is connected to college coaches at the level you’re considering. Many coach the ECNL or GAL teams, but some coach EDP or CCL TEAMS. Look at the coach’s past performance and success in placing girls and where.

Team - will your daughter play significant minutes? She doesn’t have to start, but if she’s not in the field for significant time, then it does not matter what showcases the team attends, no one will notice here. Also, due to a Covid there are D1 coach restrictions, but some can and will watch video. When they watch they will consider the level of competition your kid is playing against. It is not the only factor, but it is a factor.

League - ECNL girls and GAL get the most exposure. In that order. Period. However, there are other coaches as noted above that also can get exposure for your kid. There are some ECNL coaches that do very little to help your kid, but your kid will be exposed by playing in Showcases. There are some nonECNL coaches that will give your kid exposure but thru other avenues. You’ll have to judge the scenario yourself. Clearly a coach that will give your kid exposure within a league that gives your kid exposure in a team where she’ll play significantly is the optimal scenario.

Other - ID camps. One other way to get your kid exposure, but only go to those put on by the school itself where the college’s coaches or assistants will be present. Otherwise don’t waste the time or money.

LOL. The constant ECNL hyping is getting ridiculous. The 4 best girls clubs in VA have 2 teams in ECNL and 2 teams in GA. There is always movement on these teams because everybody keeps thinking the pastures are greener. If your kid is truly talented, you’ll know and it won’t matter where they play (assuming it’s in a competitive league). If your kid is middling or bench warming, maybe the shifting about helps. In the end, it’s usually just deck chairs shuffling.

I think the poster is right that your kid should go to the league where they can be impactful and get significant playing time-no matter which league it is. Lots of good ones to choose from. Sitting on the bench doesn’t help a player develop-games and competition at the right level does that!

We are in Ccl now and it is not a good competitive league.

McLean 06 ECNL has girls that came from Herndon, Mont Rush and MSI just this past year.
