Hahaha! Isn't that the truth! Teachers have progressed from being called lazy and incapable to people that are SO powerful that we close schools for a year! Funny...

Teachers' collective refusal to return to school is why our schools are closed and others are open. It is the truth.

You know- the problem with teachers is- they’re educated.

Hahaha please. Everyone think back to the kids they know from high school who became teachers.....EXACTLY.

Hahaha please. As opposed to whatever paper-pushing or other crap job you do, be it sales, PR, HR or whatever.

I’m a teacher and I didn’t take the shot and I am exempt from mask too.

It goes both ways. Relax.

I feel bad for students who get you as a teacher. I would move my child.

Care to elaborate?

Also, could I kick your kid out of my class too?

I truly can’t believe it took an administration lead by a physician 10 months to come up with THAT. Such a disappointment. APS had that much by, what, July?

But these crazies will never acknowledge that.

I think school should be open but I’m not in open fcps because those people are crazy. I’m married to a teacher - and I know they’re not monolithic. The closure is “larger” than any teacher.

My spouse signed up for a vaccine on Monday so as not to miss school ...

And I feel like the are trying to open. They are, they will.

I did the same thing- I don’t want to miss class, but I am so excited to get it.🙂

Those of you pushing pushing pushing to get schools open RIGHT NOW should be pushing for faster vaccination of teachers and staff. I can’t believe how heartless Americans are.

Yes... teachers need to be vaccinated but so do parents....

Vaccinated doesn’t mean you don’t catch Covid, it means you hopefully don’t get sick. You can still
Infect others.

So... now we have potentially asymptomatic people (vaccinated people) and kids who tend to be asymptomatic coming home and infecting their unvaccinated parents.

Please.... Virginia is ranked 46 out of 50 based on percentages of vaccines in arms. They are ranking states based on how many vaccines they have and how many have been given. We are at the bottom!!! Let’s spend time getting our vaccine distribution up to speed so it is safe.

We have no evidence - none - to suggest that vaccinated people can transmit Covid. It would be terribly surprising if they could. Almost no vaccines work that way. But the studies have not been done to disprove the hypothesis that it is possible (this is the scientific method!) and so until that happens scientists MUST say that it is possible. But truly, folks, it is really, really unlikely.

It’s actually not. This vaccine triggers and antibody response to teach your body to fight it. It doesn’t make you immune or keep you from passing it on.

This is what the FDA says:
Most vaccines that protect from viral illnesses also reduce transmission of the virus that causes the disease by those who are vaccinated. While it is hoped this will be the case, the scientific community does not yet know if the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine will reduce such transmission.

We want to go back safely.

The website we were given to sign up fir a vaccine crashed... it still isn’t back up. Because as soon as we were told there was a way to get back into classrooms safely, we overwhelmed the system.

We want to go back. We just want it safe for us and the kids.

I agree. We’re getting a vaccine, and this will be over with, but some of my neighbors, with their stupid signs and vitriol- it’ll be a while before I can get over it.

And then- the stuff they’ve taught their kids. Their teachers are keeping the building closed, they’re lazy, they’ve abandoned them. It’s gross.

Yes, the relationship between parents and teachers will be changed after this. Less trust, less goodwill.

I’m guessing to new collective bargaining won’t help either.

It is the divorce that hurts the kids, not the divorce lawyer.

Northam made the announcement Thursday while also encouraging public school systems to resume in-person instruction when possible. His office said six months of data from schools around the state — coupled with better scientific understanding of how the virus spreads — suggests school systems can reopen with appropriate safety protocols.

The new state guidance offers a five-step program for helping school systems to reopen, a decision and timeline that will be left to each school division.

Northam said that after the guidance is out, “our emphasis will change. Instead of schools should be closed, we’re going to approach it from the starting point of schools need to be open and here are the ways to do that safely.”
