I was 28 and had had two sexual partners in my life and no abnormal paps to include the one they did that day. They refused to give it to me saying "its for young people you are too old and you have already been sexually active".
Within 5 years I had HPV and have had to have two surgeries and been so scared and devastated of what it meant for my future. I am so angry I did not fight for the vaccine. I was young and just took what they said as fact. I should have been given it, and would not have ended up in the situation I ended in (and yes, I always used protection and had only 4 partners all monogamous in my life). Please get this vaccine for you children.
So sorry this happened to you. The guidelines now provide that it can be given to anyone 45 or younger.
If, like me, you are 47, you’ve been a click or two above the age they keep raising it to the entire time. Super frustrating.
Wait. What? I'm turning 45 next month. Should I be talking to someone about this? I don't have a primary care anymore.

Anonymous wrote:My 52 year old male cousin is currently battling a very aggressive cancer in his neck that his drs said was caused by HPV in his throat that metastasized. The HPV came from him performing unprotected oral sex, perhaps decades before. To say he and his wife are in shock would be an understatement. He’s getting great care at MD Anderson and we are praying that he beats it. Get the vaccine unless your dr advises against it!!

The vaccines are timed. You don't just get to decide when your DD will get it. There are three vaccines. The first two at 11 and the third is at age 12. I am sure the pediatrician told you that.
NP here and wrong. If she gets it before she turns 15, she can do it in 2 doses 6-12 months apart.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:If you could read, you’d see that I said we would get it, just not now. So much judgment here. Wow
There IS a lot of judgment, and this is because of the much-publicized anti-vax rhetoric that now makes people assume that ANY hesitation and ANY questioning about ANY vaccine means you are anti-vaccine.
One should always investigate and ask questions. Being "educated" and having "good sources" is not a qualifier having and asking legitimate questions.
Sadly, there is not enough good information out there in enough easy to understand and easy to FIND formats when compared to the amount of incomplete, confusing, misleading or just plan false information that is all too readily available.
Public health has its work cut out for it in the era of the internet, and more needs to be done. I don't know what that is, or what that would look like, but it is clear that something is out of proportion with "information competition".
The snarkiness around discussing vaccines and available vaccine information, is, in my opinion, a direct reflection of this.
