No. The AVERAGE 12th grader in the US has an A- average GPA. Grade inflation is INSANE. This was in the USA Today.

3.4 uw 3.8 w, 1250 SAT, typical sport and club type activities
typical suburban white kid
He’s a junior. We don’t know where to start. What medium-big solid schools anywhere within 8 hours driving distance would he definitely get into?
lol your kid is above average. get a grip.
Agree.
Seriously OP?![]()
You must not live here. That is honestly kinda below average in the dc area.
The GPA may be average for public schools, where more A's are given. But for private schools, this GPA is very high.

What is the source for this? I see USA Today article saying that the average GPA is 3.3. That is a B+ in FCPS. Still very high, but also not an A- average. In our very rigorous FCPS high school there is no way that the average GPA is 3.7 or that all but special ed kids (I have one) are in honors classes. Plenty of solid students are in on-grade level, albeit not advanced students.

How can a 3.3 be a B+?
Is this a joke? A B is worth 3.0 on a four point scale. A 3.3 is higher than a 3.0 so it’s a B “plus .3”? Is it exactly the same GPA as if you got a B+ In every class, no. But it is a better than B average.

It’s not grade inflation. It’s a dumbed down curriculum that most kids can manage.

That is why I do not understand how colleges can rank candidates without SATs.
