The same CDC that decided 3-4 feet of distance was fine because political people wanted it so, and then undecided that, and told us that masks weren't necessary and then that they really were, and then figured out that 15 minutes consecutive vs. cumulative exposure were actually different? Because other areas of the country that aren't actually doing much testing "know" that the currently out of control spread magically stops at school gates? Because other countries that actually lock down businesses and provide social supports for the economic fallout and have universal health care have different numbers that we will never achieve because we have none of those things? Come on.
I'm not saying Gayles is right. He seems awfully conservative. But to claim that "the science" has the definitive answer on schools and "the CDC" is omniscient, when we're only 9 months into this and we have thousands of years of history of "everybody" knowing a scientific principle and then it turning out to be wrong, is absurd. This is a disagreement about risk assessment and probabilities, not "the science." Nobody is certain. Neither side should act like they have The Answer and The Knowledge.

Does that mean the BOE is going to support snow days only when the majority of the surrounding districts close for snow?
Because covid school metrics are comparable to local weather conditions?

Is this even a consideration? Seems u likely that metrics will change anyway.

I'm afraid it's getting worse way too fast to be able to relax distance learning this school year. I'm hoping we'll be back in buildings next fall, for a significant number of kids if not all.
Whether we go back in weeks or months, the damage has already been done. Trolls have successsfully undermined any trust between families and staff and between both parties and MCPS.
We’re past all the political back and forth now. After Christmas, it will only get worse. No matter where your interests are, there’s not much of a choice when it comes to the virus. People can’t see the forest for the trees.
The union folks are all panicking on social media. It is hilarious to watch lol.
I’m union folk. Not panicking anywhere, let alone social media. Nor is anyone else I can see. Are you getting these reports from your right-wing websites?

No I am seeing their chatter on various facebook forums. Specifically they are panicked as they recently learned from an MCEA email that Dr. Gayles has no power to keep schools closed. They thought he was going to be their savior and keep schools closed until the pandemic was over, but BOE/MCPS has 100% authority to open or close schools. Also the state can order schools closed, which they will not.
