I LOVE my bright white kitchen. I have darker wood floors and I like the contrast. And I do not own a barn door or furniture from West Elm.

This is all so silly. There are cheap, nasty wood cabinets and cheap, nasty white cabinets. And there are exquisite examples of both. Similarly, there are luxe tasteful wood cabinets and lux tasteful white cabinets. The material has nothing to do with the quality of the craftsmanship or the quality of the design.

No you are not alone. There are many people with bad taste who love those orange oak cabinets.

There is nothing wrong with wood cabinets but they are a) difficult to pull off en mass in a small space b) expensive and c) less forgiving if of poorer material or craftsmanship.

Expensive high end wood cabinets can be beautiful. But cheaper (not even cheap, just cheaper) manufactured wood cabinets are terrible.

PP with colorful tile. Not everyone's taste, sure, but we love it. We'll be living here for another 20 years, at which point new owners would update the kitchen anyway.

You can do fun stuff with single color tile, too, which we did elsewhere in our house. Adds visual interest and texture!

This.

The subway tiles ruin white kitchens.

My house has a small galley kitchen. Walls are a deep gray throughout the house, so the white cabinets are unobtrusive and make the space feel larger. The warmth in wood cabinets needs a larger kitchen.

When we built our custom several years back we consulted
with a few successful local RE agents. It was a significant investment and we were concerned about resale market down the road. Although white kitchen cabs were in style at the time, all of the agents advised to go with
a natural (cherry, maple, etc) wood finish for the cabinetry. They stated the “wood” look always comes back and acceptable
to most buyers even when white is trending however, some buyers just hate white kitchens.

We moved into a home with hickory cabinets.
It’s not what I would have initially picked, but I like it more than my previous white kitchen.

It's a European trend, reflects small spaces and the ability of white to bring in light. The idea is that it's a blank canvas, you make it warm and inviting through details. Many developers don't understand this interplay and end up with boring or harsh rooms.

Personally I'm a big fan of washed out white stained wood and a mix of open and closed shelving but it does require daily upkeep not to look messy.
