Subject: Caved and we got a dog , big mistake
and what do you think the "climate" in the house will like if the rest of the family come home to find out that she alone has decided to rehome the pet? Rehoming the dog still needs to be a family decision.
So she can choose not to take care of the dog any longer. Don’t feed it, walk it, bathe it. Let’s see if the family picks up her slack. If not, the dog gets rehomed.

Well, issues are already arising because no one is taking care of the dog. I think she should give them a month to step up and an ultimatum. If they don't, the dog goes back. "We all have to agree or else we get to keep the pet and you have to do all the work" is not fair.

It's all hypocrisy. People keep fish as pets but still eat fish and they're not raised by people to be killed. What?! The dog deserves a loving home, attention, and care. OP may not be the person to provide these things, but the dog certainly deserves them.
No it doesn’t. A dog is a pet that exists for the enjoyment of the family who owns them. It’s an animal and doesn’t intrinsically deserve a loving home anymore than say, a thanksgiving turkey or a slaughterhouse pig. What makes you think a dog “deserves” all these things? If having a dog enriches ops family life they should keep it. If not, get rid of it. It’s really pretty simple. Some of you people are completely insane. It’s just an animal!

PP, the dog is a sentient living creature. Ironically, any animal would be more concerned about your well-being than you would be about the animal’s. And you don’t deserve it.
To be fair cows and pigs are sentient beings. We raise them for no other purpose than to kill them.
Unless you’re vegan, this argument about animal rights is pure hypocrisy. My favorite was a friend who had a pet bunny, yet ate rabbit... so much cognitive dissonance!

If she or one of the kids doesn't start doing the majority of dog care, it's time to re-home or take back for rehoming.
