This doc was interesting in that it didn’t include any interviews. It was all footage from news, police body cams, and police station interview rooms. Very different and kind of jarring to watch. Felt like you were watching it all unfold in real time with everyone involved. Creepy.

Excellent summary. I remember the story from the news but never knew anything more about it. It was stunning to see how easily be lid. The one male neighbor knew right away that the guy did it. He told the cops the guy never talked + was acting too'figgity'. For people trashing the wife-- victim shaming is for losers.

+1. Doesn't matter if she was the most annoying, financially irresponsible woman in the world. She didn't deserve what he did to her. There's no "she didn't deserve it, BUT". You saying "BUT" is rationalizing his decision to murder his innocent family. He is a psychopath.

It sounded like Chris was super close to his family before shanann. He probably resented her for putting a wedge between him and his parents .

She seemed like an annoying attention-hungry narcissist, but that’s a lot better than being an evil psychopath. I mean if you’re too broke too divorce, just bail.

Bail and go where?

Um, to her parents? To that BFF of hers? Really???

She didn't have a viable income. If anything it would be Chris bailing so he didn't have to pay all that money. Shanann btw did 'bail'. She went to her parents for 6 weeks that summer and took the kids.

Shanann did nithing ti deserve death. Regardless of how controlling, manipulative, imasculating, mean, or anything someone thinks she was. Even if she *had* killed the kids.... in front of him!! There is zero justification that makes half sense for Chris to have killed her. And any attempt to say anything negative about her character is just putting blame on the victim. It’s giving an excuse. Murder of your wife, or anyone in this case is inexcusable.

DP - you sound totally confused. Did you watch the documentary? She did not want to leave the marriage- she was feeling regretful and realizing that her need to have things “just so” may be emasculating. She was trying to recommit to making him happy.

No one is perfect. I just don’t get what is wrong with people criticizing her. God forbid any of us get killed for being “annoying” or “attention hungry”

Chris is a psycho. Shannan didn't deserve such horrible treatment in her marriage. Shannan didn't deserve to be murdered. Shannan seemed needy and irritating.

All of these statements can be true at once. That's not victim-blaming.

The female giving the lie detector test was brilliant IMO. The way she prepped him for the test and how she handled him afterwards were exactly what was needed to push him into confessing.

Yep. They planted the seed to get him to confess to a "lesser" offense and he ran with it.

I think they planted the seed because they were desperate to recover the bodies.

I was amazed that the very first police officer was told by the neighbor that Watts wasn't acting right, and that he never loaded his truck from the garage the way he had that night.

I’m not trying to be a sympathizer of a family annihilator, I think Chris Watts is the epitome of a piece of shit, but, my takeaway after watching the documentary is that Shanann was a very insecure, codependent woman. It’s too bad her BFF didn’t catch on (probably because she too was co-dependent on Shanann) or that her parents were so far away and thus weren’t suspect. So much unhealthy enmeshment abound.
