So why do people go to the beaches there?
It is the equivalent of the neighborhood pool here (except free). You drive 10 minutes. You meet your friends and neighbors. Kids play in the sand and get an Italian Ice.
Definitely true. We are in Larchmont, NY and also have beach along LI Sound. If I lived somewhere else, I would never come here for just the beach. But it is a really nice perk to have as a resident. The town beach is a gathering place in the summer (Friday live music/happy hours, 4th of july fireworks, etc.) and many people also join clubs that are adjacent to the sound. Best of all we can walk from our house which is very convenient with small kids. When we take a beach trip in the summer we usually go to Martha's Vineyard or Hamptons.
