Send him an email and ask him to call you. WA LA! You have his number.

This is so obvious that it is hard to believe this post has gone on for so many pages. Also what the heck is "WA LA" ?

Much smaller scale but same concept. You should have have his direct number Im sure he has access to yours.

Yeah, I can see the direct analogy between your U12 and Leo Messi. Good one.

And I can certainly see why you treat your phone number as if you were Pep Guardiola too.

Oh please. I am not a coach. Just another parent who respects the privacy of others and finds email more than sufficient to establish contact when necessary. You are coco loco about this. I don’t know what coach did you wrong but you need some more therapy, drugs or both.

Why do you care if the coach provides the number? In fact you prove the norm that people don’t regularly need to use it if ever. But providing the number does no harm to you and in reality it does no harm to the coach. Every phone has a do not not disturb mode so fears of being called at “all hours” are absurd.

The coach’s privacy is at no great risk.

+1

I'm a coach and a little surprised to hear that there are coaches who do not make their number available for players and/or parents. My number and email are in Teamsnap and the players and parents are welcome to contact or approach me in person with questions/issues/concerns. I have a full-time "9-5" career in a traditional office setting (until the pandemic made it WFH) so can't always answer calls or respond to texts/emails immediately but I like to think I do at least a satisfactory job of responding in a timely manner (i.e. within 48 hours depending on the issue). Years and years ago when I was a youth player (so before an app like Teamsnap) my parents had the team phone tree list next to our phone and one of those numbers was the coach's.

And I can't say I've ever had anyone "abuse" my number. At worst maybe had to manage some unrealistic expectations or receive some unsolicited tactical advice a few times, but nothing I would classify as overusing my phone number.

Bad coaches hide behind their manager. Bad coaches are always afraid of parents. A good, secure and confident coach welcomes talking with parents and players alike.

The fact that the coaches here believe the only reason people want to call them is to yell at them just shows the adversarial relationship they both presume and create. Why even do the job if that is what you think of the parents and players you are working for?

Even if I did email/call/text they could still ignore or forget to respond, so I would still probably try to catch them in person after practice or a game if it were something that my DD could not discuss with them herself.

The world didn't end for the coaches with their phone number listed? Crazy if true.

Not as insane as the world not ending for all of us without access to coach numbers. How on earth did we ever make it? What did they do before cell phones and email? Maybe shut their mouths and learned something about the sport? Perhaps even teachers got to teach instead of listening to parents lobby for retests and extensions for their laggard kids. We're all better off with a little privacy, especially with this crowd.

Poor coach, being held accountable.

2. “In business you don’t call you email”. What the hell business is that? In business when a client communicates you answer regardless of the medium.

Just ludicrous. It is nothing more than a power play. You’re just a youth soccer coach.

for what I pay for soccer, there is no way I'd give my cell number to a client, work number yes, but 2k a year is not getting a client my cell number. I have clients that can call at 4:00 am if the whim strikes them and I'll deal with it smiling but not for that little money

4:00 am. Wow, you think you are special.

Imagine being a part-time employee and believing you are soooo important that your phone will be ringing off the hook at all times of the day because the number is in TeamSnap. LOL!!!

Oh the self importance.

What is even funnier when they don’t actually get called at all times of the day if ever beyond a text that a player is running late to a game or practice.

Coach here again,

While it hasn't happened to me, I have had other coaches get the crazy parent(s) who texts at odd hours of the day and has called / created endless emails over silly issues. Usually it gets resolved eventually - but it can be hell for a while. I could see a coach going through that and deciding in the future that it's just not worth it. You can text via TeamSnap without making your number public...

It's not about self importance. If that's your experience with coaches I'm sorry.

I know, I get it. Personally, my phone has never blown up with ridiculous TeamSnap messages at all hours. I can't possibly relate to getting a TeamSnap notification 2 hours before practice that the time has changed to a different field and a earlier time. Or messages about Johnny leaving his cleat at the field and did anyone pick it up.

I just can't imagine the struggle.

Awwww, poor baby, would you like a zoom call with that?

Poor baby coach can't provide the number up front. Soooo many calls at all hours of the day.....

Clearly the coaches are triggered. But lets be honest, you don't provide the number because your wife doesn't like you talking or texting with the soccer moms at all hours. Just tell her your talking to Jake from State Farm next time.

PP is reason #10 for coaches not to give their number out...

Coaches that are good at their job are not afraid of sharing their number. Clearly, you just happen to believe you are good at your job. If you have had lots of parents every year complain to you about pretty much the same thing then I’ve got news for you buddy, it’s you not them. Spare me the “playing time” crap. A GOOD coach sets good parameters and communicates with the players and parents clearly where a player stands, their strengths and weaknesses and how they relate to playing time.

Good coaches get ahead of those situations and walk the parents through the process. The “Me Coach, You Parent” Tarzan speak doesn’t cut it and just gets the results you hope to avoid by not listing your number. As a coach you are a teacher to both the player and the parent. The only way to teach is to communicate and to do that you must be open to communicating not just on your terms but the player and parents terms.

But instead you purposely leave your number off because you view the parents on your team as adversaries. This is what makes coaches like you dicks.

Believe me, sharing a phone number doesn’t make you accountable at all. You are a nosy nitwit and frankly I would never want to share my info with this parent. Your desire for the information is desperate and obsessive. Just plain weird.

And yet every parent shares all of their contact info without a problem. When did a phone number become a state secret? You know they used to be listed in a book that was free? And if you didn’t want your number listed you had to pay extra to have it unlisted.

I don’t need the number and for the 30th time I just find it funny that coaches truly believe they are so special that they simply don’t provide their number like the rest of the team.

The lengths that people are going to defending it is equally baffling and hilarious.

1. They are afraid of getting calls at all hours of the day.
Umm, no. Place proper protocols like 24 hour cooling off periods.

2. “In business you don’t call you email”. What the hell business is that? In business when a client communicates you answer regardless of the medium.
