My parents were the only ones in their families to go to college. They grew up working on farms in the South. On my dating list there were many non-negotiables: must have MA or higher, must speak at least 3 languages, must have traveled extensively, must have had a classical education, no kids, no pets, never married, healthy, ambitious, good with money, high standards for future children. It is similar to the process of deciding where to live: my family did not sacrifice so that I could feel driven to live in the ghetto out of guilt. Give me the best or a passel of lively cats. I’m shocked no one has pointed out that the OP isn’t even divorced yet, which lowers her stock even further. And personally I would detest a man who likes to talk about “art books”. What even is that?

OP you’re going to have to temper your expectations and take a good, hard look at what you bring to the table. Work on increasing your own salary so you don’t need to depend on a man to give you what you’re looking for. There’s a something to be said about not having to rely on another person for the lifestyle you want. Self sufficiency is the most empowering thing..

I'm poor but every guy I dated has eventually turned out well off which makes them umc. To me umc is a fake class. People like the status and respect that a high income brings them but it's like putting lipstick on a pig unless you come from a long line of umc families then a higher class is ingrained in your roots and you are truly high class.

Yeah, I’ve played softball for 10+ years here in DC and have witnessed many marriages emerge. Someone told me that one of my teammates is a secret millionaire who made his money and retired at 40. I had no idea.

You need to network at work. UMC generally meet st school or work... maybe neighbors. Do you live in a nice building of 30 professionals? Have a ‘block party’ in common room. Use building gym more (but $$$ gym works too). UMC on OKC and tinder are looking for hot 20 something for a fling, not 30 year with ticking clock.


Great idea. I work for an international development non profit so my colleagues are all women and gay men. :\

You work for an org does that definitely does not pay you well. You would never really cross paths with UMC men at a Chemonics or the like. Why didn't you try harder to meet men in grad school? Certainly, there would have been men going into consulting or something there.


I met my soon to be ex husband in graduate school. And yes my career doesn't pay "UMC salary" but I have had the "UMC life" of international travel, intellectual conversations about foreign policy, art books and politics. Its hard to chat with someone who's best trip ever was NYC. Or someone that doesn't know about quinoa.


Who the heck married y'all snobby asses? Look at me I'm umc, I am entitled, I deserve the best because I am privileged. I voted for bernie so I care about the poors. If you don't know about Renaissance art, traveled to London or Paris and don't know about quinoa's exploitation by the umc and make at least $ I won't date you.
