I totally agree! She is a great coach...tough, but great! And the kids love her. Several said that she’s their second Mom, that they’d do anything for her, etc. these kids aren’t babies... they’re young adults, some with issues, and they need structure and to be treated as adults and be held accountable. Nick Saban, Bear Bryant and the other great coaches weren’t the best by coddling their athletes. Totally Team Monica!

Monica is an awesome coach! Anyone who actually works with adults or coaches sports can see how good she is.

I am surprised to see so many posters saying Monica is not warm and uninspiring! As a college professor myself, I found her to be really warm and above-and-beyond in her role as a mentor and many times while watching hoped I can be half as good as she is at leading these kids. I think maybe posters are thinking about mentors as moms or elementary school teachers: at age 19, 20, 22 that is not what "kids" need at all from their mentors. Team Monica!

You’re right their form on the running tumbling (particularly the girls) is pretty bad. Even Lexi’s form makes me cringe (former gymnast here). However, like was mentioned up thread, this tumbling is done on a floor without springs so when they transition from springs to none their form suffers. Instead on using the springs and perfecting form, these athletes chunk it and just want to land on their feet.

The real MVP of the entire show was the guy who stepped in last minute the day of competition. He only had 30 mins to practice with the team and was completely unfazed. Surprised more people aren’t talking about him. I admired how prepared Monica was for every situation and how she never lost her cool.

They are good but a lot of their gymnastics moves aren’t clean. Ankles are apart and legs aren't straight. I’m surprised they are the best out there.

Wasn’t she originally kicked off for being in a situation with drugs that “weren’t hers”? Guarantee she uses something.

Wow, really? I thought he was kind of a total jerk. He has anger issues, he constantly called his partner fat, a crybaby, etc. He can't control his temper. Not PP but I agree w/ you both. LaDarius was an asshole but when he talked about his childhood - basically being abandoned and abused - I felt for him. Most kids from problematic backgrounds like that grow up to be doing a lot worse than being a bitchy gay dude on cheer squad.

That said my favorite was Jerry. He was SO adorable.


Yes. Many of them have come from difficult backgrounds, but Jerry and Morgan are proof that coming from a difficult background doesn't have to mean you treat others like crap. You deal with your issues on your own time and don't make them other people's issues.


LaDarius responded to his childhood trauma by acting out. Jerry and Morgan responded by becoming people pleasers. Both paths are self-destructive in their own ways.

She's talented but a hot mess. I don't think she'll go far (sorry, maybe sounds mean). She seems to be one of those people who continues to fall into the same bad habits, ways. I also have little sympathy for people who talks so blandly about having beaten people so badly she knocked out all their teeth. Second chance and want to see her better herself? Yes. Rooting for her? Not so much.
