Maybe because as the seasons went on, viewers understood Carrie's narcissistic character.

Out of the four women, I only liked Charlotte. She somehow was naive and rich while being endearing and charming, which is very hard to do. Carrie was insufferably self-centered, shallow and the cutesy routine got old. Miranda was a well-done character and felt the most "real", however grating she was. Steve and Magda were excellent as well. Samantha was one-dimensional.

Steve was a bartender when he met Miranda. He opened his own bar in the third or fourth season. So, while he wouldn't have been as wealthy as someone like Trey (old money/cardiologist) or Harry (attorney) he definitely had to have some $$$ to own his own bar and was clearly profiting off of it because I don't remember a storyline where he went bankrupt or the bar closed.

Steve had no money. When he and Miranda broke up, he lived on Miranda’s couch because all he could afford were scary looking basement places in the outer boroughs.

He opened his bar with Aiden as an investor. Aiden had the cash.

Carrie was such a selfish jerk and I don't know WHY she and Big were together. They had zero chemistry, and he was a braying jackass.

DP. OH COME ON. The premise of the show was oversexed women in their 30s trying to become kept women of rich men. Obviously Miranda was an attorney and had more going for her but she had only slightly more depth than her friends. By their standards, Steve is a fail open.

Well Samantha and Miranda both ended up with men who weren’t rich. Charlotte left the rich go for a lawyer who wasn’t exactly rich. Only Carrie ended up with a rich guy. All of the women, with the exception of Charlotte (toward the end) worked (lawyer, writer, publicist). So again, you didn’t watch this show.

Where’d you get that Harry wasn’t rich? I always assumed he did well, now I’m wondering why.

Harry was very affluent, but he wasn’t Manhattan wealthy the way Trey was.

I’m the poster who made the original comment. And this is exactly my reasoning. He didn’t seem to be old money wealthy like Trey. He wouldn’t be able to afford the apartment Charlotte received in the settlement. I also looked at Miranda, and while she wasn’t struggling, she couldn’t afford to stay in Manhattan with her family on a lawyers salary.

I occasionally think about that episode and laugh. Horrors! Miranda had to move to....Brooklyn!!!

I lived in New York then and Brooklyn really was different at the time! Parts of it had gotten hip but it was still a *choice* to move to Brooklyn - and esp for her, to move away from her friends and the life she knew. It was like moving to the suburbs for her.

Harry was a partner at a divorce attorney firm in Manhattan. Miranda was a partner at a nameless big law firm. I think they would both be considered rich or at least UMC by Manhattan standards.

And while I think Trey had a LOT of family money, I think it was referenced that Harry and Miranda came from wealthy families, no? Don't remember Harry's backstory, but Miranda was supposed to be from the Main Line as someone else wrote.

Aidan was Steve’s partner in the bar, so presumably helped finance it. But agreed, I don’t believe they ever indicated the bar closed.
