25 years as a police officer, and I can absolutely state that the gun bans Northam is proposing (and unthinking, overly-emotional people support) will do NOTHING. In truth, so-called "assault rifles" are responsible for around 500 deaths per yearand those numbers have been consistent for decades. That FBI statistic ALSO includes accidents, self-defense shootings, and shootings by police in line-of-duty. It isn't about addressing violence (there are any number of more effective ways to do that), but rather a desire to eliminate what is a symbol of rugged individualism and traditional American values. It's also about control. We only have to the past to see what Leftist ("Blue") values lead to... simply read The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn to see where they want to take us.

There are many statements from politicians that say otherwise, including the bills they have drafted. Not to mention a few crazies on this site who have made it clear the ultra left wing of the party won't settle for anything less than no guns. And they are willing to resort to threats violence to attempt to achieve said goals.
