I know right? I would rather have Lavelle or Heath with the ball vs Rapinoe. I was talking with a friend about who would you have on the USA team. We both came up with two teams but Rapinoe was not in the mix, let alone a starter. It’s crazy to see her on the field with the talent on the bench.

Jw who has played the best in the knockout rounds in your opinion? I’m sure we could get multiple answers and they could all hold a certain weight. All the teams still in are good, and a lot of the ones who got knocked out were quite good too.

I’m not talking about final scores or rankings, I’m talking about quality of play. The best team in the knockout rounds thus far just got knocked out by their profligacy and a stupid rule. Norway and Japan played head and shoulders above everyone else in this round of 16.

Japan, the best team? I'd put them 4 or 5 or so in the tournament so far.
And don't blame the ref, blame the FIFA guidance to the ref...that's exactly how they want it called. If your arms aren't pressed againt the side of your body, and the ball hits your arm, it's a penalty...sucks, but at least they've been consistent about it, from the men's WC to the Champions league, to the WWC.

Not sure why people are hyping up France so much either. They looked pedestrian against Brazil who had also looked very pedestrian themselves. Norway’s the team that scares me.

The game against Thailand was a joke. We beat Sweden 2-0. In 2019 Spain lost only to ENG 2-1 and Germany 1-0. No one beat them by more than 1 goal.
The Tournament started today for the USWNT.

Game against France will be more of the same - a grind. The book is out on the USWNT and how to play them: contact, deny corners, counter. . Kudos to Ellis for keeping them in and not rewarding Spain by taking out our starters. Make no mistake France is good, possibly a faster more fluid team than US. Lavalle will be critical with her speed and playmaking and Ertz getting forward from her defensive mid. Morgan gets the press, Rapinoe takes the glory, but this tournament comes down to Lavalle and Ertz.

This was a great game if you love competition. I feel sorry for people that love winning or their country(as far as sports go) more than the game, and can't appreciate a grind gutsy win. Would a 3 goal margin get a bye into the final?? So many little things too appreciate in this game. I'd love to know Lavalle's work rate and distance covered in this game, on a short turnaround and still doing so many things right to create and deny space and chances.

The opportunities to score were there but the opportunities died as the ball went to Rapinio’s foot - too slow, tired legs, lack of creativity..no threat. It’s coaching that has Rapinio is getting touches as the playmaker from the left vs Lavelle in the middle. Lavelle would be so much more threatening as a playmaker if she was getting the ball in the final third with a threat on the left side. Dunn is going to get exposed against the French. No way she will be able to deal with Diani.

Yes I watched the game. That’s why i gave an 11 putting Morgan and Tapinoe on the bench and suggesting Lloyd and Heath up top with Lavelle as a false 9

Captain? Rapinoe actually quit running on a ball from sweet Baby today. For that alone I’d sit her.

I’m one of those people that played coached, still do, am licensed, ca break down tactics, set them, change them on the fly
And knows there are different approaches and the only right one is the one that works and wins the game fairly.
I don’t chant since the miracle on ice, I ain’t your friend, and I don’t value opinions that have to bolster themselves with attempts at personal insults

I really think that benching your captain is the best way to lose the locker room. Rapinoe deserves the opportunity to see it through this competition, but Ellis is not doing her any favors by essentially making her play the full 90. Sending Press against tired legs could be a hell of a game-changer. People are dumping on Rapinoe but she wasn’t that bad, again I just don’t think she’s being used properly. Morgan starting when she is clearly not fit is another head-scratcher, which again falls on the coach and her selections.

I maintain that if we go out, it will be due to Naeher. Weakest link on the team by far.

She is just not a threat. Would really like to see a younger more dynamic players who style complements Lavelle and Heath in her position.
