Agree with all this, although I do like the scenes that show a relationship developing between Deja and the daughters. I could get very invested in that. Deja’s character is (understandably) emotionally cautious, so it’s hard to root for her except in an intellectual way. I don’t FEEL anything for her yet.
I’m really bummed they killed William off in the first season. It was too soon! He was by far my favorite character.

1) Carnival - ok, after reading all the comments on here about the carnival, I have to say that DC has a carnival in the winter -- at the Cub Rub drive-through Christmas light show. So, maybe a bit unrealistic, but not impossible for Pittsburgh to have some kind of carnival event in December.
2) Yes it is odd that Rebecca and Miguel weren't at the birthday dinner.
3) I think Jack is or feels responsible for his brother's death in Vietnam.
4) The mysterious "her"....I think it's actually pretty straightforward but what's not straightforward is the circumstances that got everyone there.
Theory One: I think it's Rebecca, and she's dying, and that is where the story will eventually end. (Sterling K. Brown said so in an interview, that this timeline is the "end" of the story; he also said the mysterious "her" is a character already in the show). I think Kate has already died, and that is why Toby says she won't want to see me - maybe Kate died due to a pregnancy, or spiraled after Toby went into depression and killed herself or ate herself into an early grave, and Rebecca holds Toby responsible. I think Tess and Randall are dreading the visit because they're going to pull life support from Rebecca, or maybe she just had a massive heart attack or stroke, and that's why they say "I'm not ready."
Theory Two is darker -- it's Annie, and she's gotten into trouble with the law or had an overdose or something like that. That explains why Randall and Tess aren't ready to see her, and maybe the Toby comment is simply that the entire family is gathering and when he says "she doesn't want to see me" he means Kate as they're now estranged (but doesn't quite make sense why he would be part of some kind of family gathering).

From my inner city upbringing and my teaching, I have gotten to know a lot of “Dasias.” Their ability to survive unthinkable losses and stressors blows me away. I think TIU is doing a great job of portraying the depth and complexity of Dasia’s story. I was delighted when she returned and will keep cheering for a healthy outcome to her arc.

But] amazingly, when he screwed up the play and almost lost all of his chances, he was able to salvage the play and continue on with her.
Just a game to date parallel. No immaculate to low life thief anything.
In the season recap Jack calls Rebecca his big break. And then he was about to rob a business... I think you’re overlooking or overcrediting jack’s character. He was a struggling Vietnam vet headed down a bad path, until Rebecca.
