It's somewhat self-selection. Also, the criteria for admission are very clear so it's easier to gauge if it's worth it to apply.

That sounds like something we should try here instead of torturing kids with 10+ applications.
My DC applied to schools in Canada, the UK, and France. The process was a breeze compared to the US.
