I can’t believe anyone would compare OCMD to Rehobeth. OCMD is like Wildwood! I’m surprised people like that place.
NP here. I’ve never been to any of these places. I just came to say that this is the lamest insult I’ve ever seen.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:it's not surprising that the same rich white folks supporting BLM are at the same time criticizing trashy people at the beach. so they would be ok with george floyd settling down next to them on the beach vs. some fat white lady covered in tattoos. hypocrites. I hope all the beaches go "downhill" so you can just hole up at your country club so no one has to be exposed to your prejudice and hate.
You have issues.
Why? because being classist is acceptable? Or because it is ok to support BLM but fight against having your kid rezoned to another school a mile further that has more black/brown/lower ses? I know your type. they are everwhere.
Um ... You don't have issues, you have a subscription.

All the racist mid-atlantic folks come out for these threads. I always feel like I've travelled back to the 80s. They can't say this about black people, so, go after the "low class whites". Mark my words, until they find out the black family sitting next to them is a partner at a law firm, they assume that family is low class too. If you are not from here, all these beaches seem the same and none of them seem "upscale".

No, it has nothing to do with poor people.
Poor people cannot afford the outrageous hotel rates in Rehoboth on weekends.
It has everything to do with all the obese, tattooed, cursing, drunk obnoxious trashy types. They seem to be everywhere.
So,it’s all the rich “obese, tattooed, cursing, drunk obnoxious types” you hate? Because there are so many of those?![]()
If you’re going to be classist, own it.
+1. I find this classist attitude towards the less wealthy who also want to enjoy the public beach and spaces to be abhorrent. Of course it has everything to do with these people not being UMC/UC like the pp. These aren't the lawyers pp is complaining about.

Those beach trips stopped a few years ago. Now DH, kids and I go to Bethany. There is a difference in people who visit both beaches. Bethany is decidedly more white, upscale preppy. Rehoboth - especially on weekends - does seem to have the Ocean City crowd vibe to it.
I wouldn't want to spend a week in Rehoboth, but it's still fun to go there one evening while we are at Bethany.
We are a black MD/PhD couple new to the area. We've been to Rehoboth once before with our toddler, but it seems that the presence of people who look like us is reason for some to avoid the area. We're heading to MV this year instead.
I can't believe that person posted that. It's shame you won't be going back.
FWIW, I liked Rehoboth. I felt it was nice quite as crazy as Ocean City but offered much more than Bethany.

I'm a DP, but I think the "change" in Rehoboth isn't related to color, but perceived socioeconomic status. More directly: white trash covered in piercings and tattoos. 20 years ago, you didn't see that in Rehoboth---you saw it only in OC.
Candidly, it was upscale when the gay community was more heavily present. They seemed to have moved on to other vacation spots.
"They" didnt'- when you say "gay community" you mean middle aged or older, affluent white gay men and literally ONLY that narrow segment of the gay community were in Rehoboth. Rehoboth still retains is queer friendly reputation, not sure if its well deserved or a hangover from years prior but I will say it does seem more welcoming of lesbians and younger queer people, who tend not to segregate by color the way that the Rehoboth dudes did in the ealrly 00s and before.

Anonymous wrote:We’ve been going to DE beaches since the 1980s. Bethany used to be very upscale in the 90s but since they repaired the Kent Island bridge the beaches are much more crowded (mid 90s) Rehobeth has always had two sides: the rich who live there and the people on the boardwalk. Bethany has become a nightmare of crowding compared to how it used to be.
