And not only did she graduate first in the class and with a perfect GPA, which might happen once or twice in a decade at Notre Dame, she got the award for the best exam in every single one of her first year classes except for one and nine times overall -- in other words, not just an A in those classes but the very best exam in them. That's pretty extraordinary no matter where one goes to law school, and Notre Dame is a pretty good law school.
Coney Barrett also is not a wacko. Yes, she's conservative and Catholic and a true believer, but she's most definitely not a wacko. She is extremely well regarded by those who know her personally, liberals and conservatives alike.
She was also recommended by every clerk she worked with at the Supreme Court liberal and conservative alike. Kennedy had at least 3 so if that is typical we are talking somewhere around 27 clerks. I've forgotten where she did her undergraduate work but she also graduated tops in her class there. She is a brilliant women.
Which liberal clerks recommended her?
Every single law clerk for every Supreme Court justice she clerked with that year. ALL of the clerks for all of the justices. Every single one.
That was before it came out she belongs to a cult - something she has hidden from people over the years. If nominated, former members of People of Praise will testify as to how her membership in that group disqualifies her from being a Supreme Court Justice.
Oh, please. You’re just an anti-Catholic bigot. Besides, this did come out, the New York Times reported on it before she was confirmed to the 7th Circuit.
I am Catholic. Also a lawyer.
I think it is crazy that she belongs to this organization and understand why she tried to hide it.
Also - to the person arguing that ND is just as good as Yale and that admissions rates don’t tell the whole story. ND is second tier. Everyone knows it. Even the pool of applicants is much weaker at ND, let alone the acceptance rate. Doesn’t mean that ABC isn’t smart, but her legal education was at a second tier place.

You're funny. I AM Catholic - by my own choice actually, as I converted before I got married. The cult she belongs to is NOT mainstream Catholicism. And they are frantically trying to scrub their records of her and her husband's and her father's and his father's membership. But it's not going to work.
Mark my words - if she's nominated, it's going to get really ugly.

Unless they were national exams, those awards were meaningless. Exams at ND are not at the same rigor as in Harvard or Yale for sure. Why didn't she apply for Harvard or Yale? For religious reasons?
Clearly you didn't go the law school. Yale Law having "rigorous" exams? Right.
Notre Dame is a top 25 law school with an excellent reputation for a traditional, rigorous education. No one graduates from there with a perfect 4.0. No one. Except, of course, for Amy Coney Barrett, who went on to clerk for Justice Scalia and who had 27 fellow law clerks -- many of who went to Harvard and Yale and most of whom were liberal -- attesting to her brilliance and integrity.
Say what you want about the woman. But she's brilliant, without question.
Yale accepts 10% of its applicants while ND accepts 36%. ND is not a top 20 law schools. ND is clearly a second-tier law school.
