Another Dem voting for Hogan here.
The big things Jealous is proposing- state single payer health care, free college, universal pre-k are a massive expansion of govt that will no way be funded by a "1% tax on the 1%". Not even close.
Bingo. Voted for Madrelano, will hold my nose and vote Hogan. MoCo pisses money away.
+1 I voted for Madelano too, and I'm so disappointed, but I really didn't want to vote for Hogan, either. Now it looks like I will have to.
+2

Hogan has cut funds for education over and over while claiming to be the education governor (more like the Ocean City Governor). Montgomery County schools are growing by thousands of kids every year, and yet we aren't getting enough back from the state to handle this growth - we can't keep up, and our schools are ridiculously overcrowded.
Hogan needs to go. I didn't vote for Jealous in the primary, but you better believe he'll get my vote in November.
Agreed. Hogan is terrible for public education.
Well, I'd look closely at what Jealous has to say about transferring funds out of MoCo and into other counties, per the Kirwan Commission.
+1 unfortunately, Hogan is more centrist than Jealous.

Hogan will win. He is loved by many many people outside of MOCO and PG. Even then, I know plenty of MOCO families who like him. Don't know anyone who likes Jealous.

I’d agree if the left weren’t overreaching so much. Jealous is promising all sorts of free shit. Who’s going to pay for all that. I’d rather take a centrist republican who hates Trump and won’t spend taxpayer money like a drunken sailor.
There's plenty of taxpayer money to spend. Relax. There was a huge surplus last year. And people shouldn't balk at being asked to contribute a little more. That money goes s long way towards making people's lives better.
Ah yes, the ever replenishing money tree. With Jealous as gov and Elrich in Moco, I am sure we wouldn't see an exodus of higher earners. Let dc or VA collect taxes from those folks.
If VA or DC wants the money of racists and white supremacists who move out of state simply because they cannot bear to have a POC as their governor, then that's for their conscience to deal with. I say good riddance. If getting rid of people like that was as simple as raising taxes a few dollars, then hell yes! Let's raise them a LOT ! We can have a butter quality of life, better amenities, superior schools, a real and effective safety net for the homeless and new Americans, AND no racists. Zero downside.
The post you are responding to had nothing to do with race. Not supporting Jealous because you believe he will drastically raise taxes is not not remotely the same as not voting for him because of his race. You are allowed to vote against a black candidate without being labeled a racist.
DP here. I'm an Independent and will never vote for JEalous. He will drain tax payer money and not do a damn thing about bringing businesses into the state. Be very careful about voting for him! He will be all about fighting social injustice, which is great, but not what we need him to solely do as a governor.
+1 MD needs more jobs. Good paying jobs becomes the equalizer.
I really don't want to vote for Hogan because I don't like what he did with the whole school schedule and taking away money for capital school funding, but I don't like Jealous, either. I think he will hurt MD economy. So, now I'm really torn.
Hogan also lost discovery
Hogan did not lose Discovery. If anything, you can blame Ike for that although, Discovery made their decision based on their industry and where they would be more competitive.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Jealous. I like a lot of his platforms. The only thing I find a little questionable is full-day pre-K. I know it makes parents schedules easier, but that s a long day for 3 &4 year olds.
I think it depends. I know longer live in MD, but here in DC many schools have this, and it's great for working parents. Also, my child transitioned seamlessly from FT daycare, to PK3 in DCPS. It was great--teacher was wonderful, and she already had great buddies from the two prior years heading into K.
Also, I think universal pre-K can be tremendously helpful for kids from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Also for working/single parents.
You all do realize that there's already free Pre-K for families who meet the income requirements in MOCO, right? I just think we need to fix so many other things right now- transportation, attracting businesses, etc.
