MS-13 members should be the number one priority for deportation. I can't even imagine having to send my child to a school like the one in the article.

It's not. The prior administration prioritized deporting violent criminals. This one doesn't.

+1 Instead ICE focuses on fruit pickers and gardeners.

We are spending thousands of taxpayer money going after fruit pickers rather than gang members. Not a great use of our tax dollars there. It's not like MS13 are hard to find, right? It's right in Trump's backyard.

The schools, nor the district administration, are not going to advertise the number of MS 13 members there are. Bad PR.
In fact, many articles about the killing of individuals, or the arrest of individuals, leaves off the name of the schools that individuals attend.
Why do you think that might be?

So then how do you know it's in EVERY school? If we want to address this issue then we need FACTS. Not just hysteria.

How many of those are school-aged?
Which neighborhoods?
Which schools?

Maybe the LEO spouse has some FACTS she can share.

You are disgusting. Gang activity and illegal immigration problems has started to seep into the best neighborhoods and still you're playin dumb and spreading lies, pretending to be ignorant. STFU.

Such as? I know we are living in a post-fact world now, but at least try to provide some kind of FACTS instead of generalized hysteria.

Try to read about this young woman's torture and murder without weeping and throwing up.

I’d like to see Trump and ICE really go after MS-13 then rather than spending all their time raiding nurseries (I’ve yet to see evidence that these places are specific hotbeds for MS-13 like a PP claimed). There just doesn’t seem to be a coherent strategy if reducing gang violence is a big goal. MS-13 has been around since the 80s so I’m not sure how much of the leadership is actually illegal anymore.

I agree Trump should go after MS-13, and he is. I also happen to think he should go after all illegal aliens, and he is.

Priority should be MS13, not fruit pickers.

How about this. Priority 1 for deportation: MS13. Priority 2: other illegal aliens. Everyone gets a ticket. No need to jostle.

This got a lot of people worked up into a real tizzy, but when pressed they were unable to find a single shred of evidence to support this. There were 0 gang-related incidents in our school system going back several years. In fact, all they could do is post articles from Breitbart and other extremist sources claiming there was a national crisis. Not a single incident in our jurisdiction. It was fear mongering plain and simple.

I don't know what school system you are in, but the Post has been doing great journalism on this phenomenon. Both the linked article and one about two months ago about Langley Park.

I'm pro-immigrant and pro-DACA, which is why I refuse to pretend gangs aren't a problem. My kids may not be at risk, but I care about the thousands of immigrant kids in our area who are, due to their neighborhood or having family in Central America.

Which neighborhoods and which schools? It's an issue, but WHERE?

Jesus Christ she just gave you another example. Guessing you don’t live in Langley Park so you don’t care about that neighborhood.

So Langley Park and Fairfax HS. We're up to two now...

Don’t worry you’re probably pretty safe in Potomac!

This is what drives me insane about these discussions. It's always the ones who are wealthy enough to shutter themselves off in affluent, primarily homogeneous enclaves trying to tell the rest of us that WE'RE the racists, fear mongerers, etc. for being concerned about gangs, violence, etc. in the local schools.

I’m the PP calling out the fear mongering and anti-immigrant propaganda. I live in a diverse area and I have no doubt there is a MS-13 presence at our local HS. It needs to be addressed. BUT you don’t do that by lying to get the fearful immigrant-haters spun up. Either present some facts/data or STFU.

If you have no doubt there is an MS-13 presence at your local HS, then why are you demanding data to prove it for other people?

I have kids in HS. I get word of mouth information from my own children and their friends. The gang members don't hide it - most of the kids know.

So you know a little bit about your schools. And therefore you can generalize about EVERY school in the area?

If there is a presence at your neighborhood school, and it's at mine, and many others have said it's at theirs, and it's at every FCPS and MCPS school that I have friends or family whose kids attend....then it just might be an actual problem.

Here is a story about the specific murder I spoke about earlier. The murderer went to Fairfax HS and killed a student from Centreville HS. They say they don't know if it's gang-related yet, but my child knows of this boy and he talked about being in MS-13. Everyone knew it. He also has an ICE detainer on him. It's easy to figure out, based on how spun up you and others get at the thought of it, why they are so hesitant to call it what it is.

Or this is a pro-illegal alien poster who is determined to derail this thread with inane one sentence comebacks. Her next comment will probably be "So there was 2 or 3 murders. So what? Show me proof that everyone will be murdered by MS-13."

I agree. And I’m liberal and overall pro-immigrant, but MS-13 is a problem that must be dealt with. And sadly the gang often targets the very undocumented immigrants these ignorant people claim to support- the gang knows this group is vulnerable and afraid to speak up for fear of deportation.

There was a story a while back about ICE trying to deport a teen who was a witness against the gang. "And ICE put him in the same place that they put all of the suspected MS-13 members. So he's there now with people from his high school, with people from his same gang clique, and they've told him that he will be killed when he's released, whether it's to El Salvador or to Long Island."

https://www.npr.org/2018/04/05/599707010/propublica-teen-who-informed-on-ms-13-slated-for-deportation

And gang members are saying that the admin's immigration rhetoric and policies are helping them, by making witnesses afraid to come forward.

All illegal aliens should be deported. If Obama had stuck to this policy, this would be less of an issue today.

And CNN? Really? What's next, Huffington post?

Once again, here is an article from the National Review on how the Obama Aministration curbed the ability of ICE to arrest and deport known gang members within MS-13, and other similarly lovely tidbits.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/06/ms-13-gang-immigration-policy-obama-encouraged/

The Obama Administration is directly for the resurgence in MS-13 violence and the sorry state of our public schools in Arlington and FCPS, as well as it sounds like, in MD. School performances took a nose dive at the same time that Obama settled DACA kids by the thousands in the area. That, coupled with the described complete lack of immigration law enforcement, brings us to where we are today.

Trump cannot fix this mess fast enough.

"The White House noted that Operation Community Shield, ICE’s anti-gang initiative, resulted in “more than 4,300 criminal arrests and nearly 3,000 civil immigration arrests of MS-13 leaders, members and associates.” But that initiative dates to 2005, so it predates the Trump presidency." WaPo
