Subject: Playa del Carmen- US Embassy just issued travel warning!
OP, my DH is also a Fed. Saw this alert and called the State Dept. As a PP said, he was told that the prohibition applied ONLY to State Dept employees. He was also told that, yes, there have been bombs on ferries (1 detonated, 1 was found before) but it is being investigated. Nothing released to the public so far has made it clear whether this was cartel-related, targeted at tourists, etc.
We are also going to PDC in about 2 weeks for spring break. Not planning to cancel. We are not likely to take the ferry to Cozumel unless something changes in the next couple of weeks. But we are not canceling our trip or the rest of our plans.
